Anyone done it? Anything beyond 4th class?

Thinking of giving it a go this weekend. We've got the gear- crampons, ice axes, rope, etc.

Anyone out here with info on it, been there, done that?

Otherwise we might just head up to RMNP and hike around.

I've done it, and in winter too. It is non-technical. No ropes or crampons needed.

For the section from Grizzly Peak to Torreys, you will want snow shoes, skis, or something to keep you from post holing. The rest of the route you can find wind scoured areas of the ridge to walk on. Plan on a long day, so start early.

Iffn it were me, I'd leave a shuttle car at Bakerville and one way it with alpine touring gear.

Great idea on the shuttle. I've skied up from Bakerville (ugh) to Grays and Torrey's basin in the winter- killer skiing up there, and the trip down the road was a BLAST. I've only got tele gear, but I can carry my skis and boots pretty easily, and if skins are necessary, I've got a set that I'll take- I'll see what my friend has as far as touring gear.......

We'll be moving at or before sunrise, it's in our plan.

Hopefully, he'll be up for this over RMNP.........

Thanks for the info- much appreciated.

Looks like we're going to do RMNP. Here's a photo from Mt. Lady Washington summit looking towards Long's from last weekend. We'll probably go back up in that area- I haven't been up there yet this year- my friend took the photo.

That's a shame, since you'll probably be on snowshoes. Not a good way to travel, IMHO....

I just bought a split snowboard with skins, so I'm gonna be looking to skin up/ski down some stuff soon. Good get the rest of the standard back country gear, SBP, etc. Sounds like fun though.
