View Full Version : 2004 Dodge 2500 Wind Noise

I'm pretty sure I have heard rumor on the diesel sites that this model year (probably 2003 as well) had an issue where the door was aligned so that the lines looked good versus sealing well against noise.

I'm hoping someone here has dealt with it and can give a recommendation. Is it better just to take it to a auto-body shop and have them do it? Is it hard to do?

When driving, if there is any cross wind across the roof, it pulls the door away from the body a bit and is just really annoying and loud. I can pull on the upper corner of the door and pull it back in and it gets nice and quiet, but that only lasts as long as I'm pulling on it (and it requires quite the force).

I have looked at the seal and it's not torn, I think it is just the door being too loose against the body of the truck at the top of the window.

Thanks for any suggestions.

There's actually a TSB out for this problem specifically- there is a new, redesigned seal that fixes the problem. Your dealer can provide the part for you. I believe it was fixed on the 2005+ models.

its no rumor- i have seen the problem first hand as the passenger in a 04. it seemed to be just a speed issue vs a cross wind as the problem happened both east and westbound I-70 in the same hour. If you find a fix please let me know so I can pass the info to my friend.

Problem started in 02, and continued through at least 04. Glad to see they finally got off thier arse and admitted there was a problem. My buddy had an 02 that would do it at about 80 mph. When he took it in, the dealer told him if he was not speeding, it would not be a problem. My 03 had the same problem, and my 06 did not do too much better, but atleast it was some better.

You guys rock, as always. Thanks. I will check with the Dodge dealership in Boulder tomorrow, unless there is a reason to stay away from them.

So, I was reading the TSB and at the end of it, it says the policy is "Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty." I am at 76,000+ on the truck. Does that mean I will end up paying for it? I have at least two of the other TSB's as well. All three of these TSB's apply to the door seals so I know I want to get this done, just curious if I should be expecting to pay for it or not.

Thanks again.

Yes, you can expect to pay. Your best bet may be getting the seals and doing it yourself.

The issue, BTW/IIRC, stems from the fact there's only a single seal on the A pillar. The door 'wraps' up onto the roof rather then closing inside the body, and the cross winds will 'peel' the door away from the body just slightly, creating the noise you hear.

My '05 has the same issue......it pisses me off to no end. I'll have to check with Dodge and get that new seal....road trips just plain suck ass when the wind is blowing!

Had an 02 silverado that did this.. the dealer mechanic fixed it in the parking lot... he rolled down the window put his knee under the window opening and pulled really hard on the top front of the door and kept closing the door with a dollar between the door and the cab and bending it more till the dollar was snug. worked just fine for that truck.

My 03 had it bad, it was so annoying.

My neighbor never had it on his 04.

Go follow the TSB mack posted.

Mine did it too. I just adjusted the door latch catch in a tiny bit and it fixed it. You can't tell a difference in the door line, and it took all of 2 minutes.

Well, since it will take me spending some money to get the new secondary seal, I haven't done anything yet, I will be soon though and will post back what it cost.

Thanks again for all your help.
