So my nearly 11 year old daughter is seriously into this book, she says "best bio I've ever read".

While I'm not commonly known to on this board to salute flagpoles as I drive by 'em, I am proud to have a such a patriotic kid...any of you (um...Clyde) have other book recommendations for that age group with similar theme/topic?

If you have a kid, I recommend the book! I shed a tear just reading part of it this morning when I woke her up...

Here it is in short: Grade 5 Up. On June 2, 1995, while 29-year-old Air Force Captain Scott O'Grady flew his 47th mission over Bosnia, his F-16 fighter plane was downed by a Serbian land missile. O'Grady relates the events of his six-day, harrowing adventure after parachuting from his disabled plane. Left with minimal supplies and a radio low on battery life, Basher Five-Two (O'Grady's "call sign" for the mission) avoided enemy detection, protected himself from the elements, and subsisted on a diet of leaves, ants, and rainwater.

Yeah, there are many out there that are better than that. I will come up with a couple. So, did he talk about almost getting shot by his rescuerers bacause he forgot to follow procedures?

Bravo 20 is about a Brit SAS troop who wandered the desert of Iraq for many days during the first gulf war.

any of the Bat 21 books would be good too. Especially if she liked the Scott grady story.

Thanks! Need to read it after her...

Hey she also would love to visit, say, a military museum or other related thing. And the Marine Memorial on Colfax & 6th, or the tank across from the minimum security jail on S. Golden Rd probably won't be enough...any ideas? Do we need to drive to the Springs one weekend?

One caveat about Bravo Two Zero: He uses a lot of British military slang that can make the book difficult to understand (I was in the military when I read it and I had a hard time with it.) I think the newer versions may come with a glossary, but even then not all the terms are defined.

Good point zapp. I have spent enough time with the Britts that I could understand it.

I'll look into these books for my 9 year old son. Right now he is really interested in the Civil War.

If you get time there is/was a nice museum down at Fort Carson, the 3rd Armored Cavalry museum. Also a pretty nice aviation museum East of Pueblo at the old airbase there.

They moved 3ACR to Fort Hood, TX so pretty sure the museum went to.

There is this though... out east... and it's pretty interesting... http://www.dragonmans.com/museum/index.htm
