or...

with the doc opened

CTRL+A (select all)
CTRL+C (copy it)
CTRL+N (new doc)
CTRL+V (paste)

then you OWN it -- be sure to save your new doc !

What do you mean by locked? Can you open it at all? Will it not let you save it? Be a little more specific.

It is locked so I can not edit it. In the top right corner wher the little "lock" symbel is, if I click it, a pop-up comes up and asked for my password.

Can you make a PDF from it? You can copy/paste from a PDF if that is the case.

Using an older version of word may help :P sounds like you're fighting 2007 there... My inderstanding I the down-converter for viewing 2007 in 2003 and older doesn't support that particular lock.

Try opening it in notepad. I haven't tried it with 2007 files but older ones will show the text as one big chunk in the middle of the document. You just have to select it and copy it to Word.
