Why so shocked? It sounds wierd but as the population gets so large its becoming more common all the time. The youngest confirmed gender misidentification case yet was of a child like 2 or something. It actually is a real birth defect for lack of a better description. The fetus is given an incorrect hormone from the mother at a critical brain developement stage. Causing the child to have a sexual identity different from its physical attributes.

It actually is a real birth defect for lack of a better description.Yeah, that happens. A friend of mine has a niece/nephew like that. DNA says she is a girl. He came out with a boys equipment. The parents considered an immediate gender change operation and decided against it. The parents realize that the kid is likely to have gender issues growing up and may want a gender change at some point. They intend to talk to him/her about it at the youngest possible age that they think there will be comprehension.

If that's the case here then that's one thing. If that's not the case then it's a whole different matter.

Pearson says the most important thing is to make sure the transgender student does not become the target of bullying or verbal abuse which can lead to suicide.

That's not likely to work.

Kudos to the school district for seeing the need to deal with this, instead of turning a blind eye and letting the kids deal with it on their own. There will still be some of that, but the kids who are having to deal with it now, at that age, *should* be less likely to have violent reactions than those that are just a few years older. That is, until their intolerant parents come into play.

I have a very good friend who is transitioning now. She said since a very early age she never felt comfortable in her body, but tried to fit in as best she could as a male.

Since she started transitioning she has become so much more outgoing and talkative. When I first met her she barely ever spoke to anyone.

I have no idea what it must feel like to be uncomfortable in your own skin.

You definitely take on a different opinion when it is someone you spend every day with who is going through it.

All of this reminds me of a Gallagher joke...

What if there's a woman trapped inside of me and I don't know it because she's a lesbian?

I wonder how much of this has to deal with his two moms putting ideas like this into his head. 3rd grade? and he comes up with this Idea all on his own? I don't buy it one bit.

I'm sorry, but I can't belive a second grader has the presence to think, "I want to be a girl now". My son at that age was just happy doing his schoolwork and watching spongebob. Seems to me like the idea got planted some how. I've seen other parents do it to different degrees with other ideas. Push them into sports or music or other extra curricular activities they probably didn't like. In the end the kid is miserable and only doing it to satisfy the parents. It's one thing to push your kid into soccer when they flat hate it, but it's a whole other ball game if they pushed this kid to change genders.

Thank goodness it's not in my kids school. I'd have fun explaining that to my son.

In the second grade? Come on now give me a break. I can understand when they are older and feeling like they are not in the right body but in the second grade most haven't figured out the true differances between girls and boys...........................What a crock of s**t

I was going to spout some intolerant babble. I know I wouldnt want my kids to be in this school.

But you've got the best point.
