View Full Version : Area 51... Got any good stories?

Anyone got any good stories? What they do there? Personal experiences?

I know of an F-4 pilot from an old unit who was at Nellis for Red Flag. He had some nasty troubles and had to do an emergency landing. Area 51 was the closest runway. As soon as he popped the cockpit, he was blindfolded, interrogated and drove back to Nellis. Someone else flew the plane back.

A co-worker of my dads, almost disgustingly smart in math, received a phone call, he left, and he hasn't seen him since. He's called with a Las Vegas area code a few times. All he's said is that he's working on some special projects for the military. He said they've got some pretty quick pulse-jets that fly over California at night. That's all he could say.

What stories have ya got?

None that he can tell you at least! :D

An uncle of mine worked there every day for 10 years and still to this day, even after not working there anymore, wont disclose anything to anyone...not even his own wife! Ive got him sloshed on wine and he still woudlnt spill the beans.

Keeps mumbling something about satellites and a aluminum foil hat... :flipoff2:

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt (just can't tell you what it looks like...).

Seriously, there's a lot going on there that you will never find out about. The penalties for disclosure are HUGE.

It is called a non disclosure agreement. You sign one stating that you will not discuss it for 95 years. Some of the new one's are for life.

So how does one get hired there? It's not like you can go the career section on area51.com and see what job postings they have. Or is it by invitation only?

I don't even think I could imagine the stuff that goes on out there. But I sure do want to know!

Dunno but did have some supervisors early on in my career get order to Nellis but in fact they worked out there.

I worked there as a civillian contractor for about 7 years. Through a paperwork mishap that involved a cup of coffee and a tub of cool whip, my non-disclosure agreement never got filed. I can tell all.

There was a news story not too long ago about some people who tried to sue the government because they were exposed to hazardous waste and got sick while working down there. Basically, since the place doesn't exist, it doesn't have to comply with OSHA, EPA, etc. The case was thrown out because they weren't allowed to do any evidence gathering. No evidence, no case.

IIRC that suit took place in 1995.
