View Full Version : Finish It as Is Or Chassis

The end to the 7 year project that is my land cruiser is comming to an end. In order to finish it I have about 10,000 to spend to finish it as is. This includes finishing the sheet metal and dash, Intercoms, GPS, Race radio some minor fab work, mounting of fluid coolers and a few other things. The vehicle is for the most part a Tube chassis grafted into a land cruiser. It is a one of a kind vehicle but due to the constraint of the stock body it is at its and as far as ability goes. It has the entire list of parts needed for a sweet Tube chassis 35spl cromr 60's, Atlas , Big motor, stainless Everything for tubing, Mastercraft seats ect. It will cost about 8,000 more to do the chassis. Should I just transfer it to a chassis or finish it as is???

I like the FJ lines. It makes it unique. What would you gain by going to a diff. chassis that you don't have now?
Keep it a Cruizer. It looks cool. Very nice build!

What do you want to ultimately do with it? Crawl? Desert race? Cruise the mall?:poke:
Why would putting it in a Chassis cost $8000? You should only have about $2000 - $2500 in tube and then another $500 in tabs and related items. You can bend it, right? You already have all the hardware so, what am I missing?
I would do a chassis myself but, it looks great with the FJ body on it. Turn it into something like JR's bronco.

Went wrath
The Link geometry is funky due to frame constraints. Bottom line is I've been wheeling with nick and JT for 7 yeats now and I'm not following them without much drama. Can't take it. Also will loose 1000 #'s or so in weight. Longer ,lower, lighter. Next year the motor will come out and get bumped to 600 or so. And so on...Thanks for the input  We'll post pics of the buils as it progresses...

Maybe I'm completely ignorant here, but if you're running a coilover that only has 14" of extension, why would you not strap it at 14" of travel, otherwise you would be using the shock as the limit to extension, which is typically a no-no? Or are you planning to get 16" of travel, and if so how?
Just curious.

The debut of the Wrath will be late. Due to finiancial constraints. Eyes bigger than wallet. This will allow for more coin to be spent on sayy a 402ci, 580hp ls2 form Turnkey:eek: . Someone has got to give Nick a run for his money. Plus mo BLING to the chassis.
As a result I am the Goat Pilot. Needing a co-piolot the wife is putting two horses in trainning that week so she ain't comm'in.
Who is in?? I hear there are like 18 or 20 rigs going.

you can mount the coilovers so that when they only get 14" of extension, the travel exceeds that. like, desert trucks pull in 30+ inches of rear travel, but nobody makes 30+ inch travel shocks/coilovers...

Just to clarify, my car has 14" front coilovers on it now, and 16's in the rear. Actual level travel is 16" front and 18" rear, assuming no limit straps (none are currently installed; it was run as it currently sits at KOH with zero suspension malfunctions). The front shocks are angled rearward and in; the rears, forward and in, so they'll swing such that more travel is available at the axle than what the shocks can do if they were mounted vertically.
Also helps keep the fronts under the hood, which I'm not interested in cutting through. :)
Would it be wiser, for longterm durability, to run limit straps? Absolutely. I just haven't gotten there yet.

Scott you don't need anything obtruding from anywhere it'll just get hung up on a rock and slow you down regardless if weather or not its on your hood. Lately you've proven that you can drive wheels up just as well as wheels down, seems to revolve around how you feel that day...
Are you running a center strap or just letting it all hang out?
