I am starting to look at enclosed trailers for hauling an off-road vehicle, dirt bikes, tools, etc. Basically as a portable garage that I can tow behind my RV. I have towed a Wrangler on a u-haul car hauler without any issues in the past but am concerned that the enclosed trailers add alot of additional weight to the equation. I am also curious how long of an enclosed trailer I would need for a Jeep, Yota pickup, etc. I think my TJ was 13' long from end to end including the spare tire carrier. I am thinking a smaller enclosed car hauler of 18' or less would help reduce the overall weight. Interested in hearing about others experiences in this area.

I was looking at doing the same for my quads. For two sport quad, I would need a 14' enclosed trailer at a minimum. I ended up looking at a 20' Haulmark used trailer. It weighed in at 2500 lbs empty. Sure wasn't too much more heavier than my flatbed car hauler.
Your RV is most likely going to be larger than the trailer...so I wouldn't worry about getting a V-nose/wedge trailer...unless your RV isn't your primary tow rig.
I have found out that it isn't much more to buy a 20' than a 16'. If you look on CL, you will see what I am talking about. I checked out this trailer...pretty nice:

PLEASE check your tow ratings on your RV. Most RVs cant tow more than 5k lbs, and if you do(and get caught) it voids your warrenty and YOUR INSURANCE! My folks had to sell their last RV cause it wouldnt legally pull a stock LJ.

Go aluminum. It is worth the money if you need to save weight. My 40' all aluminum enclosed is 6000 lbs empty. A friend has a 36' Haulmark that is steel. Empty it is 9000 lbs. We put them on the same scale, one right after the other.

I have a 20' Interstate. It is about 3000 empty and tows great. It ran about $7,000 new.
