I know this is probably a stupid question, but here it goes. We are trying to plan a trip to moab the last week in april and i wanted to tow our heep down there, but dont have a truck that will tow it. Suki's dad has a '01 chevy 1500 that we can use, but my question is that, would that truck be ok pulling a uhal trailer with the XJ on the back?? Ideally, i would prefer to use a f250 power stroke, but we dont have one and the dealer wont let me "test drive" one for a week..haha. Any thoughts????

Should pull it just fine as long as the trailer doesn't weight eleventeen thousand pounds and you've got trailer brakes.

You'll be fine.. Just a little slower over the MTN passes!

you still have to ask if papa will even let us borrow it after the last time we borrowed it. lmao!

It'll tow okay, just very slow up hills and it'll use a shitload of gas doing it.

I doubt it if a UHaul trailer is going to have brakes though.

They have surge brakes, when you slow down the tounge will piviot and push a arm just like a master cyl. The main problem is when backing up a slope if it is steep enough it will lock the brakes!

all it will be used for is to tow the heep to moab, be parked in a parking spot for a few days and then back to denver. So no backing up up-hill and if it goes slow up zee mountains, oh well, no hurry.

And baby, i think it would be better if YOU asked papa if we can use it again..haha, your his tiny tot ;)

Thanks for the info guys!! ;) NOW WHO WANT TO GO TO MOAB??? haha

Your mileage will suffer...so bring a new credit card. Myself and a friend decided to go to California to do some ATV'n. We got 11 MPG there and back with the arrangement like this....

I know this isn't the best way to do it...but it was only 820 lbs in the truck....we were going to take my flatbed and tow back a classic car...glad we didn't. The trany's in those trucks just love to take a dump on you.

Good luck.

Been doing it with a '99 F-150 and this year will be doing it with a Tundra, expect 10-12 mpg, and just about a miracle to climb Eisenhower doing more than 45+. Dont be afraid of the skinny, the modern V8 can handle turning 4g's+ climbing that hill, watch the temps and listen for pinging.

I pull a beefy ass Grand Wag, so it ain't light.

Btw, if that 1500, is late model to have only a 4.8, I wouldn't even bother, been there, done it. Too damn slow for even my taste.

Did the Ford over a Chevy auto for that reason.... 4R100 seems to be built a bit better than a 4L60E when towing.

I would agree MP. A man at work just had his go out for the umpteen time...and he doesn't even tow anything...just a 700 Suzuki quad.

The truck in this picture has a full exhaust, intake, chipped and it is pretty snappy...but I really wouldn't want to pull a small trailer with it and some ATV's....some of the hills in Utah just flat out killed that truck. 70 mph was a max unless we wanted to floor it the whole time.

He finally gave up on trying to keep up with this....
