Hello Shutterbugs!

I found a computer at the hotel and wanted to say hello. It was so cold up here yesterday that my batteries in my camera stopped working! All of the photogs and the video guys had to go into a shed and warm up our batteries by a heater.

But I got some great shots of the races. I will upload those later....the assignment ends late tonight.

One of my photos ran on a newswire...the first one "Courtesy of Sheba Wheeler!"

ALSO: The annual ice sculpture competition doesn't take place until Jan. 22-28. Is anyone interested in getting together and heading up to Breck on maybe the 26th for a meet and greet?

Its the snow sculpture competition actually. :P

Link to the pic that ran on a newswire?

Looks like your next purchase needs to be a laptop.

ice, snow..it's so dang cold out here it's all becoming the same thing to me!

Here are some pics. The ski shoots haven't been edited...they are straight from camera.

The newswire photo was chosen by the head pr person....don't know why...definitely not my favorite...It's during a "Picnic on the Hill" event.

This guy wiped out and scared the crap outta me! I haven't been skiing yet...but I won't let this deter me. I'm ready to do it now!

That wipeout was nothing. Have had some way worse ones, freeskiing and racing. I think the first one you posted is the best of the lot so far. Nicely done!

when it was over, he couldn't stand up. He did something to his ankle and ski patrol had to come get him. He said his goggles got foggy and ruined his concentration....

I have him starting, tripping up and slamming into a pole...all the way to when ski patrol took him back down the mountain.

Cool...if you run in to a guy named darren Copeland tell him I said Hi. That's my cousin. Pretty much any Copeland would be related if they are there.

which group is he with Tiffany? There's a large contingent from Detroit...I know you lived there...is he from there or is he local?

Local. No clue what group, but all he does is ski, when he doesnt ski he teaches skiing so he can ski. All my cousins ski.

You should totally try and get one of those pics with the subject in full focus, and the background blurred (forget what they're called).

I got one of those...it's called panning. :)

I think this is what you are talking about where the subject is sharp but the background is blurred.

That first one is a great photo. It also illustrates the difficulty of getting good exposure on a sunny day in the snow. The skier is a bit underexposed, while the rest of the picture is just fine. It can be so tough to get a good exposure on a fast moving skier in those conditions.

Thanks! I haven't done any editing yet, but I will definitely need more fill flash by way of CS3!

I probably needed some flash on that day too, but it was so cold my batteries kept freezing up and stopped working. I was trying to warm them up to get them to work again and I was missing shots, so I just gave up on the flash.

few with more than 1000 shots to edit from the Breckenridge gig, I've finally gotten some uploaded to my website.

What I liked best about this assignment was how many different types of shooting opportunities presented themselves. I had to do the grip and grin shots, but I also got to cover an event (the parade), shoot parties and a banquet as well as the ski races and awards ceremony.

If you get a sec, take a look at what I've already uploaded. CC always welcome.
