View Full Version : Does it usually take this long?

So, back before Christmas, on the 20th, someone here mentioned Gander Mountain's deal on S&W Sigma's for $299 plus a $50 mail in rebate. I had them put me on the 2nd waitlist then as the first waitlist had already filled up and that list's shipment had been spoken for. Therefore, we are waiting on the 2nd shipment. They told me to wait and someone would call when they came in. I went down the following day just to see how they fit in my hand, and I happened to ask the guy when he thought the next batch would be in. He couldn't say for sure and said to call after the holidays and check. I called on Jan. 4th to ask, and whoever answered said "Have they called you yet?" Valid point I suppose. I think he could have been a little less surly, but maybe he was busy. So anyway, no one has called yet. So, I was wondering, does it usually take this long for an order to come in? Seemed like the 1st waitlist's batch only took a couple days....
Should I be bugging them more?

If their not available and are on backorder, the only way their going to get more is if Smith makes more or has a stockpile of them somewhere ready to be shipped. I mean, if they dont have them, they cant sell them, regardless if you call a billion times or not.
Personally, for 350 bucks, id be looking for a nice used XD or Glock...same style platform but much better pistols!

Actually, $250....$299 plus a $50 mail in REBATE, not $350. Anything over $300 puts a pistol out of reach financially for me, at least for now, which is why I was attracted to this deal. Guess I wait either way.

It really depends on the manufacturer and distributor.

If you really want one just wait a few months. Sigmas go on sale fairly often. I've never had any first hand experience with a Sigma but they don't have the greatest reputation. Then again, that "reputation" may be coming from "gun snobs" who dismiss the Sigma because of its low price.
I was worked security in NC after I left active duty, and a lot of the guys I worked with carried Sigmas because it was considered a "poor man's Glock." I carried an S&W, too, but preferred metal guns (either a M19 revolver or an M4516 Semi auto.)
I wonder how much longer the Sigma will be made. S&W has a bad habit of shuffling their gun models around with annoying frequency, which makes it hard to get holsters and accessories that are tailored to fit.
Contrast that with Glock which basically makes 3 or 4 different guns in a whole bunch of calibers but all sharing the same basic dimensions and configurations. I shoot a Glock for the same reason I drive a Toyota Tacoma: Because it's a de facto "standard" within the industry which means if I need parts or accessories, they're easy to find. I've owned "orphan" vehicles (Montero) and "orphan" guns (that S&W 4516) and in both cases it was a total PITA to try and find accessories or parts when I needed them. As much fun as it was to have something unique, there's a lot to be said with "going with the flow" in terms of consumer products.
I know you Jeep guys know what I'm talking about! :D
IIRC the Sigma was the first gun to go head to head against the Glock as far as being a compact, plastic-framed, no-external-safety, DA-only gun marketed to law enforcement users. Now that S&W has a new (and more expensive) plastic gun, I don't see what role the Sigma fills, except maybe as a bargain-basement model for concealed carry users.

That gun isn't worth $100. It was the 1st handgun I purchased and it was because of the price. I sold it and bought an XD instead. Wait and save a little bit more money and get something good.
This Sigma was terribly inaccurate (and I had many experienced shooters shoot it as well to make sure it wasn't me). Nobody could put it anywhere close to where it should have been going. Problem was immediately solved with the XD.

Chances are, you got a bad one then. Manufactures do tend to put out a lemon ever so often.
But to say all Sigmas are not worth 100 bucks is a load. I had one, sold it because i didnt like the heavy trigger. For 300 bucks, it was a good gun. It went bang when i wanted it too, it was pretty accurate and it was cheap. I still know the guy i sold it too and he hasnt had any issues with it. A friend of mine has one and he loves it. He keeps it in his glove box.
Before they came out with the "VE" models, the Sigmas were plagued by problems...all of which were solved with the updated models. I do agree that id spend another hundred bucks to get an XD or Glock, but for the money, their a bargain.

I like my .40 sigma for the price, its great. I got about a 1,000 rounds through it no problems .
the trigger pull is a little heavy, thats my only beef. and try to find holsters.
By the way the Glock 19 holsters fit the sigma perfect, i bought a Galco FLETCH and also a stow n go.
