Snopes doesn't have it but a quick google search produced ZERO primary sources for this rumor.
Second, how the hell would Citi know one way or other what a particular purchase is for? Makes no sense to me.
Smells snopey to me.

NSSF has it on their website, from what I can tell it is legit.

Actually I can understand their POV I guess. Damn these stupid gun control laws that are utterly pointless!

The part about seizing their money sounds to me to be incorrect/misleading. In the letter, it says they are holding a portion of the company's funds for 6 months to cover possible chargebacks. After the chargebacks are covered, any remaining funds will be returned.
I think Citicorp would be better off refusing to process online alcohol sales rather than worrying about gun sales first, if liability is really their concern, but that's just me.

Is it illegal to sell alcohol across state lines? I mean there's wine.com after all.

It varies a lot. Some states will allow local (intrastate) alcohol sales by mail. Others allow sales across state lines (interstate). Some don't allow it at all. Some municipalities within states restrict it further. It's farked.

I would not rush to judgment on this. If it turns out to be true I'm sure Citi will get all the criticism that they deserve. There's just something about it that seems--as Yota said--snopey to me. Yeah, I see that NSSF is posting about it, and the letter sure LOOKS official. Letters are awfully easy to fake, though, and it's possible that NSSF has been fooled.
I'm not going to cut them any slack at all if this turns out to be true, but I'd really like to see more confirmation before going off (as it were) half-cocked.

This is actually pretty old news. Citibank has had anti-gun sentiments for years. I think this whole "notice of termination" thing actually dates back to around 1998 or 1999. I don't know if the Citibank letter above has been disavowed but if I was to guess I'd assume it is fake. For one thing, it completely misstates the law regarding interstate transfers. It is also not clear to me how Citibank would know that the transactions were for firearms sales. THe language is suspiciously similar to some letters that Citibank purportedly circulated about 10 years ago. Finally, firearms sales between dealers are completely routine and Citi either would or should know that.
That letter looks to me like it was fabricated by someone with an agenda against Citibank.

They're too busy getting their ass handed to them as a result of their hand in the sub-prime mortgage misadventure. I doubt this is a high priority. Maybe when they finish up their nice big bath.
