Ok...so I really want an RC Plane...the 2ch micros don't interest me (maybe they will after I get to fly a non-POS 2ch heli that should be coming in any day now but I am not betting on it) so I'm looking at either a 3ch RTF/ARF or a 4ch...I know everyone says not to get a 4ch right off the bat becuase it's too complicated yada yada yada, but I have a feeling that I'll outgrow the 3ch REALLY fast.

I also have an E-Maxx that I got used and put a couple hundred into that's sitting in pieces at the moment and I'm wondering if I should get that running and sell it and be satisfied with my 1/16th scale buggy that lives @ work...Point behind selling the E-Maxx would be so I'm not torn between four money sucking hobbies (already into wheeling, guns, and RC cars/trucks).

ETA: Sorry, guess I should have asked a question...should I get a plane or not? And if so, what should I get? This purchase will definitely be an electric purchase as I had an air powered nitro boat when I was younger and the nitro thing is a PITA IMHO.

I used to recommend the GWS Slow Stick, but not anymore. Right now it's almost impossible to beat the Super Cub by Parkzone. At Things With Wings in Greeley they're $109 and that is everything you need including batteries. They take about 5 minutes to put together and when you break 'em, hot glue does the job just fine.

I even put a small video camera (search cvs hack) in the tail of mine and fly it with a 2200 3 cell lipo, on the stock motor. Pretty ballistic for 100 bucks, and the stock radio is good to at least 1000 feet up.

After that plane look at the Parkzone T-28. It's another foamy, 4 channel, comes with an 1800 3 cell and a brushless and actual landing gear, which is something many of the warbird lookalikes lack. TWW sells those for around $180 complete, with a much nicer radio than the Super Cub one.

So the Super Cub will fly with that camera attached to it?

Besides the Super Cub, I have heard good things in the past about the Slo V for being a trainer. Price is pretty good too.

The Super Cub will lift this camcorder with a LiPo 3 cell battery:
http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/CVS-One-Time-Use-Video-Camcorder.htm
I de-cased it somewhat, you have tear it down in the process of modding it to be reusable anyway. So that saved a little bit of weight. Mine's stuck in the back of the fuselage, the factory conveniently made it hollow. I hogged a hole in the foam for the lens to see out of and put a 2-AA holder in the front under the cowl to put the CG back in the right place.

It'd be a pig to fly on the stock 8.4V battery, I'm sure. The CVS cam doesn't have the best video quality but it beats nothing. Only trouble is the cam is then shooting sideways so I have to process clips with Windows Movie Maker to get them right side up.

Ok, could I, somewhere down the road convert the Cub to 4 ch if/when I get bored with it? I know I'll end up wanting to get a new plane(s) eventually but the longer the first one can last me and keep my interest the better :D

You could put ailerons on it, sure. Might want to flatten out the wing dihedral a little at the same time, though- it's got enough dihedral stock to prevent ailerons from doing much. Of course that all depends on how big you make 'em.

edit: Forgot to mention to do that you'd have to swap in a completely different set of radio gear, the stock receiver has no extra channels and neither does the transmitter.

I figured I'd need to swap radio gear to make it work...I'll sit and think about it for a few more days.

What about the Megatech Freedom Flyer? (http://www.rcdiscounts.com/acbhpusa/showdetl.cfm?did=1&Product_ID=1190&st_id=54) It's relatively inexpensive and there's a kit for ~$40 to add ailerons down the road.

So, I went by my LHS tonight and played with the sim they had there and I'm not sure I should to buy a plane right now :D

Then I couldnt interest you in a slightly used heli-max axeCP I suppose lmao.

How much and in how many pieces? :lmao:

At this point, I don't even want to think about trying to fly a heli!

Giving up already Clyde?

Well lets just say theres a reason I quit flying them the first time:D And after 4 attempts with this one I am realizing that Im just not fast enough on the stick to keep up with this thing. Needs a couple of rotor head pieces, I can replace the damaged stuff for about 20 bucks. Includes a brand new set of rotors, and I think I already upgraded the rotor grips to metal.
Never had it more than a foot off the ground, and cosmetically its still perfect, I never even put the stickers on it. just needs a few parts lol.:D

"just needs a few parts..." That sounds familiar...kinda my answer when people ask me about my E-Maxx :D

yes but in this case it isnt anything serious lol. the thing is literally brand new, I will probably replace the parts and post it up for sale soon.

what?:D No more frustration? lmao

Frustration I can deal with, most times, it's the watching my new expensive toy go from being a bunch of parts making up a whole to a whole bunch of parts making up nothing :D

Clyde, you probably don't need any more encouragement.. but I think you should put it together one more time. Those micro-helis are so sensitive in ground effect, they're almost impossible to keep together. :D

Try it again and take it about 4 feet up, much easier to control.

Try it again and take it about 4 feet up, much easier to control.Naw at 4 feet, I could do some serious damage, and this is a collective pitch rig, you hit the ground, and it does bad things to the rotor assembly. I would like to get my money back out of it, or close to it anyway.
