I would not be afraid of a sig, but I would check around for prices.

yeah, the comments I've heard are somewhat akin to Browning...somewhat high quality, but mostly known for high price...I like the looks of this piece a lot though and if the quality is good I don't mind paying a premium for a good quality life saver...if ya know what I mean.

Excellent gun, and not really a bad price compared to others I've seen.

I've got this Sig (http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=10&productid=69), MSRP is $800 and it's a .380. Like Gunter says, it is very high quality, I've never had a problem with it, ever.

Go to Sigforum.com and do some searching and reading. There are SIG dealers that frequent the classifieds and will get you the best deal possible on them. Look for a user name R2mach1 from Fort Morgan. He has treated me very well in past purchases. You can email him and see what he can get you one for.

I hate to swim upstream, but if I have $800 bucks to spend on a 1911 variant, it is NOT going to be a used SIG with an external extractor.

Negatory.

I already have one EE 1911 (which works, although was a bit more than $800) and am interested in NO more.

Gunter, I know (thought) you had an SA. $800 will buy a nice high-end SA 1911, and SA's designs are pretty close to what JMB intended other than cosmetics (beavertails, sights, bigger ports). I've said it before, SA has the best warranty on the market, period.

Additionally, I have an ~$800 Kimber (new) in TLE variety. Custom or Custom stainless would be extremely similar for less. Internal extractor, beavertail, night sights, and no failures ever. Kimber's warranty probably takes a back seat to SA (as does everyone).

If you have an EE Kimber, they'll completely replace your slide/upper, if there's any problems. Unfortunately, my Eclipse is flawless.

SA is made in Brazil, and mine was a bad example, so I'll say no more.
Kimber is made completely in NY, and I've just not been convinced of any real problems with MIM.
I do NOT like the series 80/Kimber II design kimber uses. Warrior avoids that, as does DW, although I've not had any problems here either. I just don't like it in theory.

Edit: $800 will buy a lot of NEW 1911. No way I'm buying a used sig.
Used WC? Well, let's talk. :D

my best gun deal ever was a sig p230 in 9mm
with trijicon sights
no box,one mag
425.00 from a pawn shop!
it is one of 2 guns i sold that i really regret selling.

and yes i have the SA loaded 1911 from back in 2001.oddly LOL it came with a COLT magazine in the case!!
the gun dsitributors piss me off that way--NO REASON to rifle thru new product to scam magazines and re sell them.

If its an early model SIG 1911 steer away. As with any new product they had problems, Specificly with extraction. Later models have been more reliable and live up to the Sig name. Bear in mind when they took on the large govt contracts for homeland security recently and moved production to the US Quailty dropped of slightly. Probably due to the larger amount being produced. The more you make, the more they have problems, No biggy really they are still top notch.

For 800.00 you can buy a brand new Springfield or Smith and Wesson. I personally own a Springfield and have had 6 total. Never had any problems with their product. When I began to carry my S/A operator for Duty they even refinished it in Armory Coat for free. The have outstanding customer service.

A co worker has the S&W1911pd with tac rail. Has had 0 problems and swears by it. He paid 739.00 out the door.

There are a lot of good guns out there so pic what works that YOU like and you will be happy with it.
