Looks like you got your stuck wish there.

How in the world do you get to afford sleds and 4x4's AND the time to use them?

Sounds good to me... The feller that runs Funshares here in town, rents sleds out of Grand Mesa Lodge in the winter. (or at least he did) I also saw a sign on Mesa Lakes Lodge that the rent them..

But getting up the hill from Mesa Lakes can be an adventure in itself..

Grand Mesa lodge is right along one of the trails..

My sleds are coming out of the trailer this weekend!!!!

Wait, it's to use the trailer to help someone move. :(

You know what's going to happen if you rent sleds Steve. I see visions of someone wanting more toys in the garage! :D

Bout a 100 miles.. Never been down there sleddin, could be interesting..

Not the road... :P

There is a snowmobile trail back in them thar trees that connects mesa lakes to the lands end area.... Couple switchbacks, purdy darn steep too.

Thats why I thought it was a little strange that they were renting them there.. It's not really a sled in sled out type of place.. Unless there is another way I haven't found yet.

Gotcha. Let's plan on it later this winter. As soon as I take the parts XJ to the crusher I'll have a trailer to haul a couple of rental sleds on.

Sounds good. If you rent em from the funshares guy at Grand Mesa Lodge they are already up there.. No trailer needed... Just bring gas to fill em up.. They charge an arm and a leg for 91 up there..

I rented twice last year. For the money, renting a brand new RMK 600, flogging the hell out of it all day, and handing it right back to the guy was well worth it.

We did it up just out of Minturn. Very fun. I'm sure we'll go up and do it again this year.

If you guys plan an outing, and don't mind another person tagging along with a rental, I'd definitely be interested in joining you.

Maybe Formula will give me a lesson on how to ride.........

I'd follow a lesson from Bauer. He takes an older sled that's low on power relative to modern powder sleds to places that many wouldn't or couldn't.

Everybody should have to learn on such a machine and really learn instead of letting the sled do all the work.

:flipoff2: I grew up on a 1972 john deere 242 cc. I hauled that thing all around up by kremmling. I've been on or behind a snowmobile since i was in diapers! I've only been riding these newer sleds for less than 5 years!

so, thats 25 years of riding a 440 or less sized sled.

it's ok csp i'll let that one go :D

Thanks CSP, it's nice to know that some still remember that a little finesse can go a long way..

Dad had a Bilazzard 9500 plus
Then the indy

Whew! I thought about that statement this weekend and was hoping you didn't think I was trying to take anything away from you.

I do love watching someone throw an old machine around and amaze all the newbies and their tricked out 800cc+, 150+" track machines with pure ability and finesse.

I had a Rupp too Bauer along with an old Polaris ('71 maybe?)that would backfire through the carb and throw flames at you since the carb opening was toward the rider. My dad was pretty pissed when it did that once and melted his brand new down coat which was nylon on the outside. :D

We just spent Fri-Sun & Tues at Black Mesa..... Put about 250miles on the clicker with the new to me sled! Minus the wind on the weekend It was a blast!
There was about 60 sleds for new years and I saw 2 of um all day! Plus a few Midnight Runs!!!

That may also be a good place to go that the denver and front range guys could meet the western slope guys... If you call ahead they can get rentals, rooms and you still drive right to the door (usually).
