and shoot it....
Goodbye Pentium 3.2ghz HT processor, we will miss you. Your AGP motherboard held me back, we had to move on. You were like the battered ford sedan that made it to 300k on nothing but oil changes. Enjoy your easy life as a occasional driver (music/movie server)
Broke down at Micro Center, yesterday and made the old visa cringe a bit. Built a new system, so ya'll may see me in here a bit often...
Specs:
Intel Core Duo 6600 Processor (2.4 ghz)
Intel DG965WH MB
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX 512mb (Non SLI) video card
Corsair 4GB (1gb x4) Value Ram
1x Maxtor 250gb SATA HD
1x Maxtor 500GB SATA HD
Sound Blaster Audigy 4
LG Blue Ray/HD DVD rom & Dvd Burner
Spent WAY more than I planned to.... but Meh, X-mas for me.
Started over wanting better graphics with COD4

What OS? My son just bought one very similar and Vista is fricken dog slow as crap on it. He is saving his funds to get XP for it.

XP & Vista. Vista is doing just fine. Think I am about to head down and pickup another stick of ram or two. The Corsair sticks were only 35 bucks a pop.

I feel ya MP, I just built a new system as well.
ASUS Striker Extreme MB
Intel 2.4 Q6600 Quad Core
4GB RAM
Western Digital Raptor 150GB Boot Drive
4 Western Digital 500GB RAID 5 E-Sata
8800 GTX 512MB Video single (SLI sucks in my opinion)
Thing runs like a cheetah on steroids. My old system is now sitting in a Thermaltake Bach Media Lab case, and in my entertainment center. Im running Vista 64-bit on this new system and I have no complaints or issues with speed. Even with online gaming I get absolutely no lag now and I can switch between the game and an open internet page instantly.

So far so good on this setup. COD 4 is no longer a issue :D. Just got back from Micro Center, decided to get another 2gb's of ram.
I REALLY wanted to go Quad Core, but I couldnt stand to plop that kind of cash on the processor.... Hell I cringed when the bill broke 500 bucks. I started out going in to buy a higher end AGP card. Came out with another pooter.

The Q6600 is onle $279 with free shipping at Newegg. Not too much more considering the E6600 is $229 from there.

Tru, but this was totally thrown together out of instant gratification. Trust me, I use New Egg religiously. I pulled what they readily had off the shelf and threw what I could in the cart and what I couldnt touch got carried to the cashier. It wasnt about absloute top of the line, I usually run a generation back as it is. It plays COD 4 without issues at 1280x1024, with full settings, so I'm happy

It really isn't all that... I'd much rather play some BF2

BF2 Rocks.
I got my quad core on sale at CompUSA not to long ago for $278. Thats the only reason I went that route instead of dual core. I couldnt turn down that deal.

man, take that video card back and get the new 8800 GTS 512MB G92 card.
Much faster card. and it's PCI 2.0.
I get mine Wednesday. All my new stuff is stuck at UPS in Commerce City Right now, arrived last night. But, noone there to unload the truck until Tuesday night. :(
I got me an Asus P5N32-E SLI Mainboard, Intel E6850 CPU, EVGA 8800 GTS G92 GPU, 500GB SATA hardrive, 2x DVD drives w/Lightscribe, 950w Power Supply, 4GB (2x2GB) Patriot DDR2 6400 Ram, and a Xion Case. Can't wait to get it Wednesday.
I plan on watercooling it all, as soon as I find a job and get more cash.
Seriously though, take your card back and get the G92 version 512MB. It almost beat out the Ultras in benchmark tests. They can be overclocked to almost 800 MHZ as well (with watercooling)
People are reporting almost full High Settings at max resolution while playing Crysis with that video card. And that's just a single card. not dual SLI.
That E6600 CPU you got is nice. You'll be able to clock that to 3.6GHZ.
I wouldn't really waste any more cash on Ram. 4GB is plenty. Unless you're doing video editing.
The problem with the Quad Cores, if you don't have a 780i chipset on your motherboard, you won't be able to use that CPU to its full potential. I think there's only two boards out right now with that chipset, and Newegg is sold out. The XFX and the EVGA. Asus makes a nice one, but I don't think it's hit the shelves yet.
Have fun with your new system!
