We all know how the weather here is and just how reliable our weather forecasters can be. So what does everybody think of posting up what you actually saw on your trips and travels vs what the weather people and other sites say? I'm thinking pure facts. Date, location and how many inches of snow were you hiking/skiing through and for ice how did the coverage look, is it even touching down/worth the approach hike?
If everybody thinks it's a good idea and wants to contribute I'll delete this thread and start another.

The most reliable ice reports I've found:

That's pretty good thanks for that! I've gone by the Jack Roberts reports in the past and while they are accurate for the time they are far from updated frequently:

I certainly like the layout of the Jack Roberts reports better. climbingboulder.com joined up with mountain project and all their stuff moved over there. It's a pretty busy board these days and the conditions are usually very accurate.
Reminds me... I haven't been ice climbing in almost three years. Maybe I'll make an effort to get out a day or two this winter.

Jack Roberts is the Colorado Ice climbing man. He did write the book and all but his site is still not updated enough to really be helpful to those of us wondering if it's worth the drive.
I've really gotten into ice climbing since moving out here. It's a good time and for people learning there is PLENTY to top rope to get comfortable on. There are the usual favorite places but there is enough to go around that you can usually find a place without a crowd.

The Roberts book is great.
I was pretty heavy into ice about five years ago. One of the most appealing things about it was the crowd. I only met one jackass while ice climbing. He was a guide who had set up a top rope on every line in the lowest boulder canyon flow. One guide, two clients, and four ropes. No, he wouldn't let us work in.
But everyone else has always been great. It's a great sense of community among ice climbers.
