Anyone here do hut trips? Me and some buddies do a snowshoeing trip every year. We try to do different huts each year, although we have done a couple of repeats. Our "usual" trip is hike in day 1, explore the area around the hut day 2, hike back out day 3.

Been to 10th Mountain, Uncle Buds, Polar Star, Carl's Cabin, Sangree-Froelicher, Jackal, Fowler-Hilliard, and this year thinking Janet's.

Only hut I have done is Peter Estin out around Eagle and it was a easy hike, and a really nice hut. It was a GREAT first hut and has made me really want to do more of them. I was thinking of doing at least one this winter, hopefully 2. I'd like to hear some recommendations as well. Figure winter and elevation keep the approach under 8 miles, would love to hear what people have to say.

The hike to Peter Estin was uphill the whole way but the scenery was spectacular, trail was well marked, the hut was really nice, and the view off the porch that evening wasn't bad either!

Yup, I try to get invited at least once a season. I'm scheduled for the Betty Bear hut in February.

Snowshoes? You are a glutton for punishment!

Never heard of them, is there a charge to stay in them? Pretty remote?

Take a look at http://www.huts.org

That should answer most of your questions.

I've been wanting to do a winter hut trip for quite some time now, haven't yet.

Also thinking about doing a multi day trip on a mtn bike if the few trails to huts allowing mtn bikes stay open.

Quite a few of the huts are open during the summer, and popular with mountain bikers. Check out the link to the huts org and it has all the information you need.

yea - I've been checking them out for a couple years now - for some reason I haven't gotten off my but and done it though....

unfortunately most all of the trails leading to the huts are coming under massive pressure to close access to any wheeled transportation. Divide and conquer.....

 known the hut system sence I was a kid, even got the commemorative licence plate. x2 about the getting off the but and going. What about the idea of a M&G at one of the huts?

I always had this wierd idea that these huts were little rundown places since I really know nothing about them.

But WOW, was i surprised when I looked on that link and saw the pictures of them!!

There really nice places!

Can you do summer time MTB trips to them? Go from hut to hut?

That would be a blast!

EDIT:

Just noticed this post:
