I am not going to go to Vista at all. But I need/want to ramp up my computer and it hit me like an old PSU tossed from a second story window. XP 64! I can run all my memory, and IIRC there is less overhead then Vista.
But what am I missing??? Drivers, Applications, Games?
Anyone here run XP 64 and game? Has anyone heard if it will be DX10 compatible?

#1 You will not get DX10 in anything but Vista.
#2 The compatibility in XP64 is no where near as friendly as Vista64.
#3 The so called overhead in Vista is rubbish.
Overall the performance hit from Vista64 to XP64 is neglegible comparied to the increased compatibility IMO. As far as the memory usage goes it is all based on how much your system has. It caches and preloads things for increased speed. There is a link somewhere that explains it that I will try to find.

Why not just stay with regular vanilla XP? Less issues with compatibilities with XP64 and certainly then the nightmare that is Vista.

He wants to run more then 3.25GB of RAM. Which is not possible with 32bit XP or Vista.

Here is the page I was reffering to earlier that talks about the memory usage in Vista.

Well if you are running 8GB then I would say your options are either Vista64 or 2003 x64 or Enterprise 32bit.
Just do it Bill! :flipoff2:
