making an avitar work on this forum is a total PITA. Look at the testing forum and you will see that this is the most frequently asked question on this place is, "how do the goddam avitars work?" Please add this to FAQ.

Thanks, Matt

Can I second this? I figured out how to post pics in a message, but have pretty much given up on a personal avatar. Those who have figured it out say that it's simple, but can't seem to explain how to do it...

The hard part is getting an image to be under 5k.

Actually for me editing down was easy. Figuring out my image had to be in lower case file extension now that was a trick. I totally agree there should be a FAQ on this.

BTW most windows utilities automatically save the files as .JPG and you have to rename the extension which in most cases is hidden for known file types to .jpg.

I try to do my best at helping:

1: Find picture you want to use.

2: Resize said picture to 100x100 pixels.(I use Paint shop pro)

3: Compress said pic to under 5000 bytes. (I use paint shop pro)

4: Set up an account at Community webshots (http://community.webshots.com) and upload the said picture there.

5: Open said picture in communtiy webshots, and go to the URL at the top of your browser right click it, and choose copy.

6: Go to Colorado4x4.org (http://www.colorado4x4.org) and login.

7: Go to "my profile"

8: Go to "view/update profile."

9: Click on "select a different avitar image."

10: It will bring up the standard avitars, but at the bottom it will give a spot for you to enter your url. Right click in that box, then select paste.

11: If it worked your new pic will be displayed in the upper left area of that screen, if so click select this avitar.

I am not saying that this will work for everyone, it is what works for me. The hardest part is resizing the picture, which can not be done if you don't have the right software.

For a limited time if you need a picture resized just email it to me and I will resize it and send it back. It may take a day or so for me to get around to it though.

Hope this helps!
