When can we usually expect to be able to get snowmobiles out in some good snow north of, or around Steamboat/Craig? I was looking at the mountain cams up there and it seems like there isn't much if any snow anywhere yet.

Was there last weekend. Once you get on the NW side of Rabbit Ears there is no snow. There was about 3-5" on the ground up on the pass and that was it. Steamboat and points north had 0" of anything

Thats what I really want to find up there.... we are planning on being up there on Dec.6-9 but if things stay this way I might have to renege on my time off request at work.

Even if they do get some snow it would be strictly trail riding for me. It takes some serious base to cover up all of the stumps and rocks to the point where they aren't dangerous anymore. I've replaced too many tunnels and trailing arms because I was way too anxious to ride in what looked like deep snow.

I guess plans changed, now we are headed to Durango/Silverton/Ouray in the morning. I'm told there is 3 to 5 feet of 4 day old snow and a few more on the way over the next few days!!

So it was snowing hard when we got down there. We spent 5 or 6 hours breaking trail and digging out sleds on Friday. Since it was snowing so hard all weekend we didn't get many pictures, but most of them look a lot like these. We got up to about 20 or 30 miles south of Telluride from Durango and the game went from ridding to digging sleds really fast. Trying to lift a sled back up on packed snow standing in chest deep snow more than once in a day is not that much fun! Being the first guy down a trail for the season is pretty awesome.
