I've been noticing a strange side effect after drinking my spruce brown lately. About half way through a glass, I seem to breath deeper and easier and my sinuses seem to open up. Similar to taking a decongestant or ephidra or something like that.

I've never had this effect from any other beer I've made or bought. I can only guess that it's from the fresh spruce tips I trimmed off the tree in my front yard. I used about a pint of them in the boil, and about a pint of them to dry-hop.

Is there something in spruce that would have this effect? Is it dangerous? I've read that spruce tips are like a mega-dose of vitamin C, but I haven't heard about any other effects. It's a really tastey beer, and I always feel invigorated after drinking one. It almost has a stimulant effect, but I sleep better after having one and wake up feeling better than usual too.

Upon researching on Google, the spruce tips are very high in Vitamin C, which can also taste tart, but the mint in the spruce might be where you're getting those side-effects from.

Spruce tips were in nearly every article I found to replace hops. They are fine for you to consume.
