A friend of mine has an R1 I would like to pick up. Problem is, he does not have the title. He got it from the owner and never got the title 3 years ago. He has the bill of sale and everything is legit. The guy he got it from is nowhere to be found. Is there any way I can get even a salvage title for the bike if I buy it from him?
If there is how do I go about that?
Thanks

Make him get the title. It aint worth squat without it. IMO

You can't just get a salvage title because you don't have a title. You will have to go through the hoops of trying to find the previous owner and possibly getting the bike bonded to get a new title.
And since bikes are so easy to steal I think there are a few more steps they make you take with them to get a new title.

its not stolen...I know the guy he got it from. We are actually thinking he passed away shortly after he sold it.
Maybe its best to find another bike and pass it up

if he is deceased, try to find his next of kin and see who had his power of attorney. if someone does, or if the executor of his will/estate can be located, they can normally handle such matters.

How did this guy get it registered???
Has this guy been driving around for three years with no plates (or tags) and no insurance?
If he has a bill of sale HE needs to get it titled!! He will have to pay for three years of taxes.
DON'T DO IT! If you have to go through with it make a deal with your friend. If you can go through with getting it titled THEN you will pay him. Your friend will understand that he is stuck with the bike and not stuck with screwing over his friend.

I already dropped the idea. He bought it and has since parked it because he couldnt get it registered. He rode it at the track about once a month. I'm not even gonna mess with it, its not worth the headache.
Thanks for the help

If he needs to sell it, he might try posting it up on the colorado sportbike forum. A lot of those guys run race bikes with no titles. Might be able to find a frame with a title over here........
