This news agency is supposed to be staffed with college educated professionals. How does someone make a mistake like this? More important, how does it make it through layers of people before being presented as a slide on the nightly news? How did they miss this one? Better yet, how many people here will figure out what's wrong...

I can't tell you how many times that I've seen stuff go out the door from the marketing agencies I've worked at, as well as my current employer. Sadly, it ends up that everything is a rush, and the people who are supposed to review designs/graphics usually don't look at them with a fine tooth comb.
A couple of years ago our company's calendar had New Years Day on Dec 3
The worst part about it, is there's no accountability when it comes down to it. We've had sign-off forms, etc, but nobody really has to own up to their mistakes.

And that's why I don't trust news agencies. No one bothers to fact check before the talking heads go live.

Well, I really don't care about Iowa, even though I was born and raised there. But at the very least, I would expect that someone who's good enough to make it in the national news bureau (along with everyone involved in checking their work before it hits the screen) would be able to tell the difference between two states.

To the people on the coasts, it's all flyover country.
Or, as Ned Flanders once said "that insignificant little patch of land between New York and L.A. called "America." ;)

I grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, most maps in the news show it as either part of Lake Superior or Canada or maybe Wisconsin. I got a national parks pass and It was not shown the same color as the rest of Michigan. I sent an e-mail to the National Parks people to complain. There are parks in that part of Michigan. I guess we just were not part of the rest of the country...
