What's even more gay is that the ticket brokers and ANYONE around the US will have a better chance of getting tix, then jacking them up for resale!

So when I bought Bronco playoff tix a few years back, I had my ticket account all set up, seats selected, all that, and I hit "Send"- and I got them.

3 other people in my office did the same thing, and they didn't.

Does anyone know the procedure that the Rocks will follow?

Are these through ticketmaster? If you have an account with TM, will you be able to get it all set up and hit the button?

Hardcor4x4
October 17th, 2007, 12:16 PM
All and all I think it's a better idea and safer then possible pushing and shoving in lines and possible fights breaking out at ticket windows. A lot of people don't understand how the lottery sytem works therefore thinking they HAVE to be first inline to get the best tickets and if someone doesn't move fast enough or dily dalys tempers start and fights break out.

Online everyone has the same chance. If the system gets overloaded and goes down it goes down for everyone, when it's back up and running it back up for everyone. When the tickets are gone their gone and the poeple inline behind you wont be following you to your car.

Every rich schmuck in the state is now going to try to buy a ticket. Some guy who just got on the band-wagon and wants to take his trophy wife will get my ticket. Not to mention ticket scalpers nation-wide!!!

I was going to have much better chances when I actually went down to Coors and stood in line to get in the lottery.

The true fans are losing out!!

Ticket brokers do piss me off and they prevent lots of regular people from going to the game. I don't understand how crap like Stub Hub is legal.

In general, though, I prefer buying tickets online as long as the system doesn't crash and isn't rigged to allow the brokers to get huge amounts of tickets using straw purchases. I know scalping has gone on forever, but when it becomes rampant it ruins the game. Stub Hub just makes it easier. :(

ColoradoSkier
October 17th, 2007, 01:04 PM
Just an FYI to everyone that thought their odds were better standing in line - the online system was going to run in conjunction with this too. So the odds were actually more favorable that, even if your line was called, they would be sold out by the time you got to the window.

This does even it out the best for everyone. I just hope they did some serious upgrading on the ticket sale system. It isn't Ticketmaster, and it will die a couple times that morning, bet on it.

Stub Hub =/= Ticket brokers. Granted, a lot of brokers may USE stubhub. But you can use it to sell YOUR tickets as well, just as easily. It just facilitates it, and it actually works fairly smoothly. Much like eBay (only it is not an auction format), I actually like the idea of StubHub. It pretty much makes a "perfect" or "efficient" market for tickets the way Adam Smith would like. In other words, the tickets go for MARKET value rather than some scalper on the road changing his price radically based on how many hours before, or innings into, the game in question he sells for.

I wish I had developed that website/service.

I liked the old days when you stood in line first come first serve. If you really wanted them bad enough and was willing to sleep out 5 nights then you deserved them. But then came along the scalper who payed bums to sleep in line for days to get tickets and now thats options gone.

I was never a fan of the lottery systems. Always seemed like alot of people and a big cluster trying to get everyone lined up in the correct order. Then people get to the front of the line and ask 50 questions about every section open and waste a bunch of time.

I liked when the old ticket master outlets would sell tickets. A guy would go down the line and ask how many tickets you wanted, was cash only, best available only, then when they would go on sale the guy running the machine would just start punching the number of tickets in till they were sold out and you would pay for them in the order you were in line. More people got tickets and it seemed to run smooth.

I wish the Rockies would have don it like other Major league teams. You had till a certain date to put your name in for WS tickets on line and they would enter you in a lottery. On a certain day they would randomly pick the names and contact you to purchase tickets in the order they pulled them. No lines, no systems crashing, no hassel.

I actually hated that system. And it's still first come first served.

This way the stupid fanboys who have no life and can camp out for 5 days don't get any more precedence than I do. Screw the campers! Let us all start at once and the first ones to get tix get tix, the rest go to Stub Hub if they must.

Online is actually more equitable than in-line in my opinion.

1) Regarding the oil.... again.

2) You don't think having a WS doesn't cost just a little more? Teams need to rake in this money. Every team in the bigs is going to try to raid their roster after the season, and you never know when you might suffer a 60-something win season causing you difficulty in making ends meet.

That would only be true if they had been planning to sell exclusively via physical lottery, which they weren't. It was a combined physical line lottery and "anyone who comes online" type of sale.

If they wanted to really do it right, they would have done what Boston and Cleveland did, which was take names in advance and then randomly select out of that list - more of a true lottery. Time is running out for them to do this though. The other teams did this last week or the week before.

The load on the servers would be a lot less too, since a predictable and smaller number of people would be given the chance to buy.

I think they would have had 25,000 people in line for 18,000 tickets and the ones who got picked could buy 4 each which would mean only a few thousand people or less who stood in line would get tickets. Sitting punching buttons on a computer will be less painful if you fail anyway. My wife and I both will be manning our keyboards Monday morning.:) Good Luck to us all!

They said that for the wild-card game, they were selling tickets online at a rate of 500 per minute. Demand for this game will be higher (though their capacity to serve may not be). So maybe the first 10 people in line would have actually gotten seats, and maybe less depending on how many questions the people that made it to the counter asked before making a purchase.

Check this out. I didn't know Stub Hub was a part of Ebay.....

BOSTON (AP) - The New England Patriots have won a bid to get the
names of all the fans who bought or sold - or tried to buy or sell
- tickets to home games through online ticket reseller StubHub
Inc., a move one technology group sees as an invasion of privacy.
In a lawsuit filed last year against San Francisco-based
StubHub, a subsidiary of eBay Inc., claiming it encourages fans to
break state law and violate team policies, the team said it could
seek to revoke season tickets of people who use StubHub.
A lawyer for the Patriots wouldn't say what they plan to do with
the 13,000 names, which StubHub released to the team last week
after losing its appeal of a Massachusetts state court ruling.
The team's rules bar reselling game tickets for a profit. State
law, though rarely enforced, restricts ticket markups to $2 above
face value plus some service charges.
Patriots tickets have been offered on StubHub at prices many
times higher, including two 50-yardline seats for New England's
Dec. 16 game against AFC rival New York Jets listed Thursday for
$1,300.05 each. Their face value is $125.

As far as ticket sales for the world ...... what ever it is goes. No matter how they decided to sell the remaining 18 to 20k tickets, someone would complain. They stated the the server would NOT crash.. Does not matter cause a very larger part of the population will not get tickets. There are just so many more people wanting them than the place can hold anyway.

LOTS of people are having trouble logging in to the website. The problem with locking it all down to one IP is that scalpers are probably using people with connections at home instead of having them all in the office. You can get a far greater number of people to help this way.

That would explain some of the things we're seeing here at the office. Seems we're screwed.

For the record, this is what happens when non-technical people make technical decisions. Network Address Translation (NAT) is about the most common thing in the world these days. It is completely unrealistic to expect each visitor to a website to come from a unique IP address anymore.

Seems like the ev15 server is staying up better than ev14. Both just stopped responding a second ago. The laptop connecting to ev14 is not back yet, but the desktop connecting to ev15 is.

The Rockies management is going to get hammered hard in the press tonight about this.

I don't. If there are really 2 million people trying to buy a grand total of 60,000 tickets (20k/game) and each person who gets through can buy 4, that means you have about a 0.7% chance of success at best.

From the Post article at http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7248448

Alves explained that people who saw a "page cannot be displayed" message "were IP addresses that we blocked due to suspicious/malicious activity to our website during the last 24 to 48 hours. As an example, if several inquiries came from a single IP address they were blocked."

It was unclear how this might impact people using the same IP address this morning ? for example, if several fans who work at the same business all log on at one time.

Keep trying, because all of the tickets people weren't able to complete a transaction on are being put back into the pool now, if the timers were true...
So you don't haven't confirmation yet whether or not you got the tickets?

9News is reporting that the Rockies spokespersons are denying that the servers crashed.

I can believe that - it's just overwhelmed.

Evenue didn't come close to gracefully handling the traffic here. I think the case can be made that Ticketmaster would have done a better job.

honestly, though, ***IF*** their servers were really up and running normally, the tickets should have sold out in 15 minutes.

Their servers may not have "crashed" but they may be running extremely slow AND we know there have been problems between the ticket selection and e-commerce (checkout) servers.
