High Plein Air Arts Festival: Oct 5-Oct 12 in the Golden Triangle Museum District. More than 100 artists will be painting outdoors throughout the area.

as part of Denver Arts Week, the lobby of the DNA building is filled with AMAZING photos taken by Rocky and Denver Post staff photographers.

I could stare at them for hours and never get tired of looking. The way they have been able to tell stories using their craft is wonderful. If you get a chance, stop by and take a look!

great post Tiffany! I've been wanting to shoot at the Zoo for a while now. What about the Denver Aquarium? Does it have free days too?

Not that I know of...and for the most part, lighting in there is horrid.

But I would be down for that...best to go in the evening during the week to avoid screaming kids freaked out by the fish.

LOL. I think a tripod would be perfect for long exposures (as long as nobody walks through the frame while you are taking the pic).

NEW: Morning Photography at Denver Zoo

Join us for an early morning photography session long before the zoo opens to the public at Denver Zoo with staff photographer Dave Parsons on Aug. 16 at 6:30 a.m.!
(Rain or shine, tickets are non-refundable)

Get the morning light on a variety of animals including bighorn sheep, arctic wolves, harbor seals, eagles and many more! In addition to the early entry to the zoo, participants can enjoy an exclusive close-up photo session of macaws and raptors.

Photographers have the opportunity to explore on their own or join the group. The session is limited to 25 photographers, 18 years and older. Cost is $40 or $35 for members and includes a great variety of photographic opportunities for the entire day!

Conoco Wildlife Theater
9 a.m. Tropical Discovery opens for photographers. (Opens to public at 10
a.m.)
11 a.m. Continue on your own or meet with Dave Parsons to get answers to your questions.

What to bring:
Camera/s with extra memory cards or film
Variety of lenses from wide angle to zoom
Flash and/or flash extender
Tripod/monopod
Water
Snacks and/or sack lunch (or buy your lunch at Samburu Grille)
Sunscreen
Light raincoat
Insect repellent
Please wear comfortable shoes and a watch

Animal areas available for early photography (Outdoor exhibits only. Some animals may not be on exhibit):
Predator Ridge - African wild dogs, lions, spotted hyenas
Felines - Amur leopards, jaguar, maned wolves, servals, striped hyenas, tigers
Northern Shores - arctic foxes, polar bears, sea lions, seals, wolves
Hoofed Animals - Bactrian & dromedary camels, cheetahs, bongo, African buffalo, eland, Przewalski?s wild horses, musk ox, reindeer, yak, zebras

Wildlife meets wild lights at the 17th annual Zoo Lights celebration beginning December 7 and running through January 6. This annual holiday tradition will shine brighter than ever this year with added animal viewing opportunities, more than 38 brilliantly illuminated acres of lights and the opportunity for children to visit Santa Claus.

This year?s celebration will again feature multiple animated animal sculptures and elegantly-crafted animal ice carvings created by Santa?s helpers with power tools. Festivities will also include carolers, instrumental groups, dancers and the Conservation Carousel. Warming stations throughout the zoo will offer hot chocolate, cider, soft bread pretzels and steamy cappuccino. Several special events are also planned for Zoo Lights this year, including Members Preview Night, Wild Ice, Kwanzaa and Zoo Year?s Eve.

Zoo Lights Member Preview
Date: December 6
Time: 5- 9 p.m.
Cost: $6 for ages 12-64, $4 for adults over 65, $2 for children 3-11 and free for those 2 and under.

This exclusive event will allow members a sneak-peak at Denver Zoo?s largest annual celebration before it is unveiled to the public on December 7.


Wild Ice
Dates: December 15 - 23
Time: 5- 9 p.m.
Cost: $8 for ages 12-64, $6 for adults over 65, $4 for children 3-11 and free for those 2 and under $2 off for members of all ages.

Visit a special ice carving garden, filled with numerous carvings created by Santa's helpers with power tools.


Kwanzaa
Dates: December 26 -30
Time: 5- 9 p.m.
Cost: $8 for ages 12-64, $6 for adults over 65, $4 for children 3-11 and free for those 2 and under $2 off for members of all ages.

Gather with friends, family and the community to celebrate the cultural holiday of Kwanzaa, a tradition that honors African American heritage through African dance, music, and education.



Zoo Year's Eve
Dates: December 31
Time: 5- 9 p.m.
Cost: $8 for ages 12-64, $6 for adults over 65, $4 for children 3-11 and free for those 2 and under $2 off for members of all ages.

On the brink of a brand new year, children can also experience the fun of Zoo Year?s Eve, a wild New Year?s Eve party beginning at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 with entertainment, activities and crafts that lead up to an early countdown to New Year at 9 p.m. It?s the perfect night for families to celebrate together without stretching the limit on bedtime!
