View Full Version : Estes, Caribou Creek, and Eldorado Mountain

It was an action packed weekend. One of my wife's friends invited us up to Estes for the weekend. They have a collection of old rental cabins in the family, so we got a place all to our own. The Elk fest was going on, so we went to it. We do every year. Got to pet a 3/4 wolf mix dog! They are pretty neat. Saturday was also free-bee day for the National Park. Too bad Trail Ridge was closed at the top. There was a little snow up there... Went back to the cabins, had a cook out, and drank some beers. :D Sunday, on the way home I ran Caribou Creek and Eldorado Mountain. There was some snow on Caribou. And, holy crap is Eldorado Mountain narrow at the bottom!!! Excellent scenery for sure!!!

Are there any good LEGAL hunting areas off of those trails?

Jonny Park isn't far off from there and has hunting later in ths year I think...

And, holy crap is Eldorado Mountain narrow at the bottom!!!

Some day I swear I will finish that trail, and see this purported "narrow spot"! Every time I try that trail, I end up helping someone who shouldn't be on the trail in the first place.

Is Eldorado Mountain the trail that goes from the old town of Eldora up to Caribou- up the side of the mtn?

One decent rocky spot that's a little tricky?

Good little trail- I've only run it uphill. Once in a stock Grand- a little skeery on the one tough spot.

Good little trail- I've only run it uphill. Once in a stock Grand- a little skeery on the one tough spot.

That's the place. I think the trail number is 505? The tight spot isn't too far past the gate on the Eldora side.

I love that almost final switch back coming in to eldora, i have been in two stock trucks that almost went down the cliff. which is exciting becuase you can see down the cliff cause your facing right at it, especially when the back of a Dodge is trying to go ass over grill down a hill.
With the Jeep it was just FUN:D
