View Full Version : Political telemarketing - are you in favor?

Got a call today from someone running for Mayor in Lakewood (Bertolli). This really irritated me, and I promptly let them know how I feel. Their defense was "everyone does it". I think they should spend some $$ and run a poll on how people feel about this. Since they won't, I am going to run one here...

Since I don't have a land-line at my house and I've never received a telemarketer call (political or otherwise) on my cell, this doesn't affect me. However, if I was receiving political telemarketer calls I wouldn't be happy and would probably tell 'em to pound sand (I don't care which candidate).

My vote is my input.

I don't have a land line either, and don't recall ever putting my cell # on any voter registration records. So imagine my surprise when it showed up on my cell today... Bertolli definitely isn't getting my vote.

I also would not mind if the actual candidate called but I hate the recordings.

I voted no because I have not answered my phone in probably 3 years. I screen all incoming calls. You want to talk to me you have better leave a message. There out to get me you know.

I didn't see the option that I wanted: HELL NO!!!

There should be no exceptions to the no-call list for charities or political parties. I also think there should be a law that all solicitation calls--including charities and political parties--MUST display the name of the organization on caller-ID. When they block the number from displaying that just proves that they know you don't want their call!

Of course, the people who REALLY piss me off the most are the ass-hats who actually respond to telemarketing, either by buying from the hucksters or donating to the charities. If these idiots would just STOP then the calls would also stop, because they would no longer be profitable.

Hanging up takes about .5 second. Not answering an unrecognized call takes even less time.

I'm fine with them calling. And, quite frankly, I'm thankful that I have a cell phone that they can call on, as well as a land line. I know I'll have a problem when I can't afford to have a phone.......then I'll get upset.

Vote posted.

Well last year I had a discussion about phone calls, spam and irritating radio ads based on deception, dirt and trash talking - with two parties (Reps and Dems). After much discussion both of the candidates offices responded that they understood I didn't like their approach but they were not campaigning for me - a person who studied the candidates and votes... I got a response from the Republican party that mimicked the same thing and the Dem Party never responded at all. It should also be noted that the Libertarian Party ignored my questions and responded with a list of reasons I should vote fore their candidate...

They are campaigning for those who don't take the time and want a 5 second blurb to cast their vote - and even if they turn me off there are 20 or 30 more who live by the last thing they heard and that is how they vote.

In their interpretation if they stop the trash talk and the phone calls - they loose no matter what their campaign actually stands for... so they feel the ends (getting to office to do what they feel is right) justifies the means.

And until the public steps up as a whole they won't change.. or perhaps if (and I hate to add any new law) someone passes a law that makes it a crime to campaign that way...

My $0.02... and I voted "No" to the poll.

Not answering an unrecognized call takes even less time.

I already do this, but checking the voicemail that they leave (in my case a recording) takes considerably longer.
