Can someone advise how to insert pictures into the text of a thread?

Host the picture online somewhere (flickr, image shack, etc...) right click on the picture, go to properties, and then copy the location of the file (http://www.hostingcompany.com/picture.gif) and then wrap that code with the tags and off you go.

Your instruction allows you to post a link to an internet site. Is there a way, as well, to include the pics within the thread, as many seem to do (and I think I managed to figure out last year)...

The first set of instructions that cheftyler gave will post the pic in the thread! You can also do the same thing, right click on the photo you want, copy the URL from the properties. Then click on the little yellow (looks like a little stamp with a picture of a mountain in it) icon above where you type (to post a thread), and copy the URL there and it will post the pic you chose in the thread!

Try hitting on quote for this post and you can see the links.

for this picture, I went to Snapfish (http://www.snapfish.com/info42), right clicked on the picture and after the list of options showed, I highlighted & left clicked on "copy image location". Then, when posting this comment, I left clicked the mountain and sun icon above the white reply area. When the box popped up, I pasted the URL, the thing I copied as noted after right clicking on the picture.

Use this post as a guide to identify how the picture is posted. Don't forget to notice the little square box with a mountain scene and sun above the text area where you type.

You sure can attach the photos directly to the post, but for that ya gotta buy a star :D

Ok, I'll show you how I did this:
http://www.phillipshaganjordan.com/Gallery/d/52-2/Calistoga+Ranch+August+28-Sept+4+2007+008.jpg

I copied the URL from the properties of the online image (looks like this:
http://www.phillipshaganjordan.com/Gallery/d/52-2/Calistoga+Ranch+August+28-Sept+4+2007+008.jpg)
Then I put a in front of the URL and a after the URL.

Make sense, or no?

Because you aren't linking to an image, you're linking to the board software's PHP rendering of an image...the URL you throw between the IMG tags needs to end in a graphics file extension (.gif, .tif, .png, .bmp, etc...)

This is what you used before:

http://www.colorado4x4.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=4890&c=3&userid=9770

This is what you needed to use:

http://www.colorado4x4.org/gallery/files/9/7/7/0/2doorcharger01.jpg

To get this:
http://www.colorado4x4.org/gallery/files/9/7/7/0/2doorcharger01.jpg

The way I got the .jpg version was by right clicking on the image and choosing properties, then copy and pasted the URL where it says Address (URL): and popped it between the IMG tags.
