Well, let's just say it was a LONG day. I was the only truck in there, all day long (nice because I didn't hold anyone up, but bad when you pinch a brake line and have nothing to plug it up or fix it.) Needless to say, I learned a lot about running hardcore trails: don't run by yourself (rig wise) and bring EVERYTHING that could possibly go wrong.
I started the day AMAZING, made it in the entrance without any trouble and cruised right in about 100 feet, got caught up on my rear diff and tried pulling myself over ( too much gas cranked hard passenger ) and SNAP went my passenger birfield. Exploded the darn thing and had to fix it while still able to SEE the SIGN that marks the entrance. Embarassing, yes, team's moral, very low. Fixed that in about an hour and a half, ate lunch, we were happy again.
Onward and upward we go, I cruised through everything without a hitch up 'til the V-notch. Had to back up a few times to get the right approach angle here, climbed up into it and dropped in - scared half to death I'd take out my window, exo, all my PINK paint. And it wasn't that bad, but then proceeding forward we gave it a few tries, leaned to the side of safety and decided to winch it. Gave a few tugs with the winch and while backing up my brake pedal goes straight to the floor. I yell various obscenities and let my (3) spotters know about the brake situation. Well, it turns out the zip tie that held my brake line out of harms way (previous owner had it rigged, never phased me before) slid down the shock and the line got pinched between my steering and the shock. Tried to pinch it off and search for something to plug this little line - it didn't happen.
Okay, so we made it out of the V-notch aided by the winch and I screwed myself over again, wedging a back tire under an overhanging boudler while trying to climb, binding up and having a heck of a time backing down. I got super frustrated and let my fiance drive the rest of the trail (grr, but I get mean when I am frustrated, and he doesn't like me in harms way)
My amazing future-brother-in-law (orange HUGE comanche) came to save us, and helped us winch up the exit, this went VERY smoothly, considering anytime we had to back up there were no brakes and the only thing holding the truck up was the winch. And then we used his much slower vehicle to get us down and out the rest of Chinaman's.
Thank God for TRAILERS!!:hail:
