I will be in Moab in mid October and would like to venture onto the Coyote trail. Where can I find it? I've seen one picture and it looks like fun.

It's out near Area BFE. Hope you're built really well. If not, that trail will kick your a$$.

You know its really bad when you see lots of broken 60 shafts laying around:eek:

That sounds scary! I may have to walk it first. My achillies heel is that I don't have the real deep gearing. 78:1

Then I would HIGHLY recommend walking it first it's only about 1/4 mile long.
We walked it and decided to not run it as no one in the group felt they were ready for it (including the Valtastrophy ;) )

What would this trail be about like in Colorado?

It runs up a revine(sp?) so like BV Carnage x10
I personally would rate it as # 1 or 2 in the state if it were here.

Well....maybe I won't have to walk it. I smell a smoking clutch already with rubber fender flares laying in the trail. This is supposed to be for fun and wrenching on the trail doesn't fit that bill.

I have a couple of spare 60 outers but I don't want to spend them. At least not this time. I will be hitting Billings Canyon on the way through Big J though. I've walked it and it looks like my kind of fun.

But it is a BLAST!

I believe that was before the last transformation of the Valtastrophy.
Scott and I were the 7th and 8th vehicles to ever run this trail. We ran it the second morning that it was open. We went in with 8 vehicles if I remember right. 2 of them drove out unbroken. I was one of the broken :D

I would imagine it's real washed out. Moab got over 12 hours of rain last weekend, top of the world went from 4 to at least a 6. We, also ran strike ravine before the rain and it had been heavily washed out before it.

oh its not that bad.....just go buy a locked up toyota with 35's or larger and enjoy a nice utah trail.
It can favor short wheel base for a while but I have seen a stretched jeep-thingy with a 130 inch wheel base run it.
Narrow rigs are a bonus here.
best piece of advice when running this trail.....patientence
Have a good time!

All my pics of Coyote were lost when my big external hard drive crashed, along with most of my pictures of the South Pole :(

Awesome. Just awesome. Reading about having bypasses makes me think both of those trails might be on the "to do" list next time I'm out there.
Thanks for the link.

Reread that trip report. The bypasses were on Green Day, not Coyote. There are no bypasses on Coyote.

Some friends walked it last weekend and said it was really washed out. They thought it was passable but tough. These guys are on 40s and tubed out.

Check out on youtube there's a nice vid showing the trail, I saw it last night while surfing. It looked big after big after big obstacles. Too big for my pretty CJ.

I have gotten the chance to run it a couple times now. Just can't be afraid of body damage. My runner has taken a beating there but has come out everytime with no problems.
Took bobby long and his buddy up there and we had a blast. You don't need 1 tons to run it but just the right go pedal and no when to let off.
