Well, although not a hard core wheeling trip, Fire_girl and I got out to see some colors, do a little hiking, and enjoy the mountains this weekend. We went down to Marble on Friday afternoon and stopped at Beaver Lake. Since there were signs up that said no overnight parking there and we wanted to get to Crystal, we decided to start in with the dually. FS 314 is closed for construction right now so, what would normally be about 4 1/2 miles from the lake to the mill, turns out to be closer to about 8 miles now going around FS 315. If you haven't been down there, I highly suggest taking a day or two and enjoying this area.

We drove in to our camp site on Friday night, which is right next to the picture of the water fall/rapids that I will post here. On Saturday morning we got up and hiked the last 2 miles into the city where we met some pretty cool people and hung out for a while. After hiking back to the truck, we headed out but, stopped along the way for a hike over to another water fall that ended up not being a good idea so, we didn't get all the way there. This ended up be a much needed relaxing weekend away.

I'll try to get more pictures up later if anyone wants them but, here are a few teasers.

We ran Scofield on Sunday. While the sign says the trail is closed, it is not. We got lucky and met a guy coming up that way and asked. The sign at the bottom says its open, the sign at the top says its closed.

It was really beautiful up there. It was muddy on the Crested Butte side but not raining, but once we hit the top, it started a constand heavy drizzle. Coming down was a bit slick on the narrow section and with the full width, the backend slid towards the edge a few times. I will try and download some pix tonight.

I, too love that area. It is so beautiful in the fall. McClure Pass is breathtaking when the leaves are turning. I haven't been that way in the fall for a while and I need to make a visit!

Great relaxing trail!! When I do make it out to Colorado that is the area that I usually call home. My good friend's family has a cabin just outside of Redstone and we usually run the Crystal/Lead King/Schofield trails every year. Great fishing between Lizard Lake and Crystal! My wife and I got engaged at the top of the Lead King Basin road, right next to a large pile of bear shat :D
