I don't think we're going to be able to make it to Junction in time on our way to Moab, but I just wanted to remind everyone that these are going on this week and if you can attend, please do and let your voice be heard!

I really thought this post would be bigger - especially with the impact on 4x4 period.
Clint - I am sorry but I don't think I will be able to make it. I am not sure what time I will be getting off of work tomorrow.
If I make if home between 6-8 I will be there in my work close and all. This is very important to me.
But if I don't make it - Thank you for representing us.

Am I the only one that feels like I shouldn't continue building my trail rig? This sort of thing scares me. I am tired of (sorry if any one get offended) "Tree Huggers" taking it out on me. "CRYPTOGAMIC SOIL" - what the hell is this? Who said it was an endangered item. Everytime I go to Moab that is all I see - as far as the eye can see - is CRYPTOGAMIC SOIL. I do understand that some people - I call these people - ACEHOLES - do go out and tear up the land and drive off of the path. Attack those people - NOT ME.
Pretty soon we are going to have an entire contenent (spell?) of beautiful places to go - BUT - it will take you 3 days to hike there. What is the point of closing places off that ATV, OHV, etc., use to get there? If people would use the trail and not abuse the trail, this wouldn't even be brought up.
I agree - MOAB, I love to go there and wheel - you shut that down, I wouldn't even think twice about going there. Aside from visiting my father-in-law.
Ask any MOAB native - if it wasn't for the ATV and OHV business the place would shut down. Mountain Bikers and Hikers are not enough for that place to survive. Now it is a double edge sword - they also hate the way wheelers act. Again take it out on the bad eggs not the rest of us who like to go there and see the beautiful areas.
SORRY FOR THE RANT - THIS JUST UPSETS ME......

Agree - but to me it is like the BIGFOOT, or LOCNESS, or the YETI. MYTH.
For all we know - polution as caused the dirt to turn black. I am not scientist - I just don't see what they have to close trails because of this stuff.
And it is far from endangered - that stuff is all over UTAH
But - if we must protect it which I am fine with - STAY ON THE TRAILS - that is what it comes back to.
Don't take the trails away - put a more stricked enforement of the trails, with higher fine tickets, better trail markings, what ever it takes, but don't take the trails away.

Alright, there were a few of us at the meeting last night, and, as always, there is alot of misinformation floating around.
The BLM is proposing 4 alternatives concerning their land management plan. The first, A, is to leave things as they are. B is very eco friendly, removing alot of the current access, but not affecting anything that people use Moab for (wheeling trails, motorcycle trails). C is the one they prefer to adopt, and it is a compromise between option B and option D. Option D is geared more toward motorized access, which is good for everybody.
We talked with Brent from the BLM last night for a good 1/2 hour, and got some of the misinformation cleared up. First, they want to fundamentally change how the land in Eastern UT is classified. Right now, its OPEN, meaning if you want to head off in the weeds and make roads and tear up stuff, you can. This applies to most of the area. All 3 options (b, c, d) change all this OPEN area to either designated routes/trails/open/closed/non motorized. Each option just changes the amount of land that is allocated for each use. After Brent showed us some of the maps, it was explained that there are many redundant trails, unused, abandoned roads/trails in eastern UT, and this would close a bunch of them down. It gets rid of dead end spurs on existing roads as well. In every option except B, there are a couple large areas that are still classified as OPEN, and they are mainly dune areas, where people can ride freely.
So, I see this is both a good and a bad thing.
The good: The BLM wastes alot of resources managing all of these little unused roads, trails, etc. This would help them out by establishing a clear route designation picture. It would stop people from just driving wherever they want when there are already established roads/trails/etc, saving much of the land from being torn up for no good reason.
The bad: Any chances of new areas/trails/etc will need to be formally approved in the future, but its almost that way now. Its that way here in CO.
So, what I left there with is this: Option A just aint gonna happen. B is scary and very extreme. C is ok, and D is what we should be supporting. I have a bunch of papers at the house, and will post up info and where to send comments to. I strongly advise that everyone on this board send an email or letter. If the option they choose ends up being B, it will be OUR FAULT.
Im sure I left some stuff out, but 89minitruck, toyin and JeepDiva were there as well and can chime in...
