Yesterday 10 people in 5 trucks ran Red Cone to Radical Hill, so we could do some work on it. The colors were beautiful, especially the bushes on Radical. It was kind of strange doing all of Red cone and not seeing another vehicle although the weather could have had something to do with that. The top of Red Cone was shrouded in the low clouds off and on, with a fairly strong cold wind blowing a light drizzle on us. We went down to the base of Radical Hill for lunch, where the sun made a brief appearance, but the dark clouds soon came again. We went up Radical, looking for trash, but there was almost none to be found. Good job people! We stopped 2 switchbacks down from the top and took the edge off the sidehill where it was getting the worst, probably from motorcycles slowly making the downhill track deeper than the upper one. Of course as soon as we started working the rain and sleet started, and didn't let up until we were done. The big rock didn't seem bad this time as I probably had 3 feet, where as last time I had to drive a lot closer to the edge. So I think someone must have moved it a little, and we left it as it was. The goats were hiding this time, and as it was getting late, we decided to just go back down Radical and over Webster. A fellow club member was filming for a Fox Signature Story, which I think will air Sun Oct 14th. I put in a good word for COA4WDC and the groups who maintain trails, also mentioning that MHCJ adopted Red Cone and Webster and keeps them in shape. As the air date gets closer, I will let you know if it changes at all.
