My brother and I want to take my Father and Grandfather on a scenic drive this weekend. They are visiting the family cabin in Bailey from out of state. We have previously taken them on many of the trails in the area and wanted to give Georgia Pass a try this time.
According to my Wells 2nd edition trail guide you can do the pass as a partial loop by going near Glacier Peak, and down "Number 10" hill, and taking Middle Fork of Swan River, to South Fork, and back over Georgia Pass. Wells lists this alternate route as a "narrow, tippy road." I think my brother and I did this about ten years ago but I cannot remember how difficult "Number 10 Hill" is, etc. My brother's CJ7 and my Waggy are both lifted, with 33"s, open fronts, and factory trac-locks in the rear.
We do not want to get into anything to difficult with my Grandfather along. Pretty scenery is really what we are after. If anyone familiar with this area could pass on info regarding trail conditions, it would be much appreciated. :D

Going across the slope on Glacier peak isn't bad; yes, a little off camber, but in fact is quite scenic, so the "narrow and tippy" is actually pretty cool. If you do that trip take time to run up to the top of what we think is Glacier Mtn., that is cool.
Your rigs should handle Missouri Gulch (or #10 hill, or SOB hill, I hear it called all 3) downhill fine. However... Gramps may find the whole thing a little exciting. It is steep (take the downhill route) and rough. I did take my 68 year old Uncle and some friends down it in my CJ and one of Charles's rentals, and they found it to be kind of cool, but then they have jeeped with me several times. Shoot, with a decent spotter, you should be able to find your way down SOB hill w/o incident with your rigs. My CJ was on 31's, and if I remember right, so was Charles's rental. Same one we took up Wheeler... don't tell Charles (Jeep rental guy in Breck)!
What about one of my faves, up N Fork of the Swan and then back down the Middle Fork, or vice versa? Maybe more scenic and less taxing on Gramps?
Enjoy, I wish I had time for one more trip out this fall...

You also could take Webster Pass from Grant over to Montezuma then up Deer Creek. Then you would have a choice of taking the Middle or the North Fork back down to the South Fork which is Georgia then back over to 285.
SOB Hill might be a bit tough on Gramps.

If you take the left after the bridge when Georgia pass meets the Tiger road southwest fork you go up American gulch and come out at the top of Humbug Hill which drops into French Gulch outside Breckenridge and there are a lot of nice Aspens in French Gulch.

Another suggestion: go west to Como and take Boreas Pass (very easy & very scenic and historical) to Breckenridge; go north out of Breck to Tiger Rd; east up south fork of the Swan to Georgia Pass and down to Jefferson to complete the loop.

Thank you all for the info and suggestions. We ended up taking my Grandfather and Father to Breakneck and Brown's passes. Those trails are very mild, but scenic with lots of aspen. We were going to go over Georgia pass, but the weather looked a little sketchy there today. My Grandfather and Father had a great time.

Thanks. :)

Thread hijack warning.
Do you realize that in about 40 years, we'll have thousands of OLD LADIES running around with tattoos? (And RAP music will be the Golden Oldies!)
The thought has occurred. Only, the tats will be flapping on loose skin and probably not be in their original shape.

Should be attractive. Well, if I have glaucoma or something, maybe.:P At least it will be entertaining! Hopefully they will not be showing off their many piercings.
