I decided to do a new trail yesterday. Red Cone has been on my mind for a while, so I went for it. I flew solo because Robyn had some work to do. I figured I'd run into some people up there, and I did. The first guy, I believe his name was Matt, was in a black Rubi. I followed him up the trail until we encountered a fellow Jeeper with his hood open. He was up there with the Mile Hi Jeep club. Nothing major, after a little trouble shooting, we were on our way. One of the Jeep club guys had a cool old CJ3B. I decided to hang in the back of the group as I'm not part of the club. Anyway, on the climb up to the summit, the guy in the blue Jeep (Jay) lost a rear u-joint. He didn't have the parts to fix it on the trail, and couldn't get the shaft off, so the club got the driveshaft wired up. They limped him back out the way we came in. Being so close to the summit, I deceded to push on. The wind had to be atleast 75 m.p.h. at the top. I was having a hard time standing in one spot. I took a few pics, then made my way down. I have to say, the downhill section really wasn't bad at all. It must have been something back in the day. I then turned down to Montezuma (skipping Radical Hill) because I wanted to get something to eat (Dillon Dam Brewery chicken fried chicken) before I headed back over to 285 via Georgia pass. Georgia was mellow as ever, but the top portion looked a little more washed out then I remember. It was a good day of wheeling. More pics...
