So, I got a response last night on my craigslist ad for my toolbox I'm selling. It was simple really, just asking if it was still for sale since the ad's been up for a week or so. I suspected it was a scammer but wasn't quite sure so I replied back "Yeah, it's still for sale.", knowing they'd email back with more details. And:

" Hello ,thanks for the quick response. I am highly interested in buying this Used Matco Rollaway MB6525,I want to buy this item from you cos its a bit cheaper over there.pls i am okay with the price and the present condition of the Used Matco Rollaway MB6525,and i will like you to make me be the only buyer for this Used Matco Rollaway MB6525 my payment for this item will be through a certified bank check from a reputable bank. i would have prefered to come down and discuss this transaction eye for eye,but i am not chanced for now and as for the shippment of Used Matco Rollaway MB6525,that would be done after the payment is been cleared by ur bank.and my shipper would be at your door step for the pick up of the Used Matco Rollaway MB6525. pls you can let me have your the following information.. the full name to be on the check your full address your zip code and your contact number. My secretary will issue out over payment to the address you have provided asap and you will recieve it via the ups or fedex. Till i read from you..have a great day "

So yep, it's a scammer. What do you guys think? Any way to screw with 'em? Does it cost money to get a certified bank check? Cuz if it's a bad account I can at least cost them money to make the check. Hmmm. I'll probably just end up ignoring it.

I got a bunch of those replies when I sold a car on Craig's a couple of weeks ago. If your mail reply to them (saying it's still for sale) came from your personal email address, you've just been added to spammers mailing lists. Congrats! You'll be introduced to Hot Asian Ladies wanting to date you tonite!

Create a seperate free email account when you do Craigslist sales.

I specifically put a laptop up for sale a couple months ago so I could get Hot Asian Ladies wanting to date me. I checked with Laurel prior and she was alright with it. :)

I bet I got 15+ emails exactly like this regarding that computer. Hard to believe people still fall for that stuff... especially with all the info out there regarding this scam.

I always tell them to send me 2.5 million dollars.

Funny thing is, most ofthem are automated now and youll get some half english version of

"yes, i am very pleased with the condition of your item...i will send you a western union money order for twice your asking price if you ship to my dead sister in tanzania."

Or something to that effect...i just put my Sony Vaio on Craigslist this morning and have already had 6 of those emails...

Go on with him and get this check. At time go to your bank and notify them of the scammer. Give them the check and all the correspondence. Had a friend do that, and they netted a huge operation over in the UAE.

Most of these now are from canada. they will send you a check or more likely fake travelers checks for way more than you asked for it and want you to send them the excess via western union etc. If you do manage to CASH THE BOGUS TRAVELERS CHECKS SOMEWHERE . You will find they were bogus and you owe the money you got from them......Really common scam. Believe it or not sometimes peopel will find a place to cash them ad actually send the money and be hosed for thousands of $$$$$$$$$$$$$
