I am tired of spending money with companies that tell you one thing and do another...

OR TELL YOU YOUR PART WILL SHIP THIS DAY.... and delay it several times, and then try to pawn you off to someone else.

How about this one for you:

I'm at a 4x4 Offroad Vendor show, I speak to a particular vendor about a rollcage. They say "if you buy this today, we will have it to you in two weeks." I say "you guys have a small reputation for getting behind because of demand, are you sure you can get this to me in 2 weeks? I am going to Moab in 4 weeks and need this cage on before then."

The head whoever at the booth shakes my hand and tells me again "two weeks."

I buy the rollcage and eight weeks later I still do not have it and they will not give me an eta.

If it's the same company I'm thinking of, I ordered rocker guards in feb get them in may. They are being repowdercoated now. I dropped them off 5 weeks ago. The vendor I bought them from said one week. They said 2 weeks when I dropped them off. I called 2 weeks later and they were at the powder coaters. I called again 2 weeks later. The powder coater picked them up that day. They weren't back yesterday (5 weeks now) and they expect them back today or tomorrow. I didn't have to work today or yesterday so I was going to reinstall them. Guess not.

These companies will only continue to stay in business if their customers continue to put up with it.

Cancel your orders, and let them know why. If you don't, you have no one to blame but yourselves. Tell them to call you when the parts are in, and ready to ship.

I wanted to get some of the cool, new beadlocks from a local company last spring. But, after looking around and reading up, I saw a pattern: they'll be available at such-and-such a date, then it was longer, then it was longer. Sorry, been there and done that. I called another company and had killer new BL's on my doorstep a couple of days later.

Never looked back, and likely won't do business with a company that can't deliver. I've worked enough times for companies that promise new stuff, and don't deliver. It's a sign of terrible supply chain management- nothing else.

Pull your orders. They ain't the only game in town- let them know that.

For what? A restocking fee for parts they can't ship? Sounds like BS.

Clue the rest of us un-clued in to the vendor, as it will probably save some of us a bit of aggravation.

If they are dinking you around, speak up. Forewarned is yada, yada and on and on. :(

Because company wouldnt sell direct to people in colorado anymore so I had to go through one of their vendors. And the vendor wont place it on order till they are paid.

Absolutely not valid, and not enforcable. You CAN cancel the order and not pay 15%. Call their bluff, if you're serious.

I can assure you, that their vendor (we all know who it is, and they are on this board, I'm surprised they have not contacted you via PM yet), cannot bill them until the product ships. So the shop you ordered through has not laid out any cash or incurred any type of payable, all they've done is cut a PO.......if that.

If the shop you ordered from is telling you that they are gonna charge 15%, you now have reason not to do business with them either. That's complete and total BS.

Restock fees on an item that hasn't shipped or isn't even available is COMPLETE BS. Once the item has shipped it's understandable, but if the manufacturer hasn't even shipped the product yet I would avoid both the shop and that manufacturer if they won't waive the restock fee and can't get you the product.

I've talked to several people at my store too who have had Sears try to pull the same thing on them when the appliances they wanted weren't available and I could get them much quicker.

Well the vendor isnt on this board.... Had to go out of state because the only vendor I know of Im not a big fan of doing business with already. The part is custom... well its an orderable custom part on their website. So I assume that is the pre payment reason. Yes after this order I probably wont do business with the vendor anymore.(even though they have been ok till now, so I want to lean on the company as being the problem.) If I knew of another product on the market right now that would compliment what I want then I would be all over pushing for a cancelled order. The biggest problem is this piece that I ordered works with another piece I already have... and works with another piece I want that I havent ordered yet. So unless I start all over with that then I have to sit here and take it in the pooper.

Trust me... I am pissed, and I am whining... I dont have the money to do anything about it, If I could back out now and still finish what I started I would be all over it... But to take a loss myself to "stick it to the company" who probably wouldnt even realize what it did doesnt seem logical.

Out of curiousity, what is the part you are waiting on that is so special? If I read this right, it sounds like cage parts. Is it not something that someone local can make?

Yeah, that stuff is a little hard to make unless you have a big press brake and are good with it. Hopefully you can get what your after soon and get that beast out on the trail. It looks really good!

I have been toying with the idea of making dies of some sort out of lumber to bend up some corners for my rig. I hate that these companies charge you hundreds for stuff that only costs a few bucks to make.

I don't think their profit margins are really all that inflated on armor. Steel is pricey these days and most of the companies selling it, don't have their own equipment to build it so, they pay someone else to press it to the shapes they need. They also have to either laser or plasma cut the steel to shape.

jdbwrx
September 14th, 2007, 11:05 AM
Is this anything you can contact the Better Business Bureau about? It may not be the best idea to do it until AFTER you get your stuff though.

Can you document the time frame they promised you? Get everything in writing if you can.

It's really sad how careful you have to be when getting parts/service in this industry. The more I get into this, the more sketchy/flaky businesses and people I run into, even the ones you think are solid.

Yeah Im not complaining about the price at all.... I am complaining about being told 3 different times that my stuff is going to be another month... 1 time I can understand a bit, but it should become a priority after that. But 2 more times is retarded.

I didn't think you were complaining about cost, my response was more for Sound Man's post. Delivery is a whole different game though and it sure sounds like you are having bad luck with that.

If you agreed on a price and paid it and they can't deliver I would be on the phone with the BBB and would out them here and on Pirate. Nobody likes to be thrown over a barrel and thats what it sounds like to me.
