how many places in the hills have you been driving down the road to find that a private owner has decided to close off a forrest service road?
please give forrest service road number and locations. the more detail the better.
how bout the road off the buck horn to crystal?
how bout 297.1 off the saint vrain. miller rock maybe?
slaughter house gulch out of jamestown?
please, if you have road numbers and information this will help a great deal in the next 2 to 3 days.

I was just on Crystal Mtn. Road this past monday.
It is marked as a private road at the bottom gate, but not locked. We opened the gate and closed it after ourselves.
Is it supposed to be a public FS trail? I saw no signs indicating a FS trail number. On the topo map I checked it is 'Crystal Mtn Road'.

After having a discussion with a landowner the last time I was up on Crystal, I spoke with the FS about the road. The road is private. They have an access agreement with all landowners except the one right at the turn off where the gate is. They told me that if the gate is open (not just unlocked but actually open) it would be OK to use the road. If it was closed (not locked, just closed) the road should not be used.
I think it is faster and funner to just use Moody to access Crystal anyways. The only reason I went down the road last time is the guy I was with was having overheating issues.

Actually timed it once with a group. Some of us went over Moody and a couple of us went down Crystal Mtn Road. We met back at the Moody Staging area. The trip down Crystal saved about 10 minutes over Moody. IMO, unless you are driving Moody in 'Baja 500' style, it is just a longer, bumpy, access to Crystal mtn (the quarry is fun for those who have not been there yet, otherwise not worth it).

I admit I have not timed it but it seemed to be just as fast if not faster to me to go down Moody. Plus I don't like to be on Buckhorn Rd too much, seems like every time at least one asshat cuts a corner going way too fast and almost plows into me.

Interesting post, combined with your other post offering to employ someone to run survelliance at your property in lefthand and take pictures.
This also after expressing some discontent regarding the recent LHC cable project, where posts were moderated out of the thread.
Care to share?

The Miller Rock issue is being worked by Trail Ridge Runners and the BRD.
