So this past weekend we camped at the Round Mountain Campground off of Hwy 24 west of Lake George. We hoofed it up to the top of Round Mountain, and that was a hoof-an-a-half for my sorry butt. Nice hike. While hiking, I thought the jeep could make it up that hill with a bit of challenge--it's pretty steep and very loose, it would be a good exercise.
So, the questions, are...is this a legal trail? I didn't see anything on FS 290 saying otherwise. And, has anyone come down the same way you went up? Looks a bit dicey to be to come down to 290 from the crest the same way you go up, and I see no other way to come down.
I know folks have tried going up because I saw the tire tracks--looked like Plain Old Tires to me. I just need to know if it's a legal trail for motorized, and if it's been a real danger coming back down. Looks dicey to me.
