Hey all, got a quick question. I am going to run this trail tomorrow with two friends on ATVs...I just found the T-33 crash coordinates and we wanted to check that out at some point tomorrow. Other reports I have read make it sound like you can drive right to the crash. Is that true? Nothing I have read tells me a definite yes and I don't want to do anything we aren't supposed to.

Everyone be safe this weekend, lots of drinking is ok but no driving is allowed!! :tisk:

Thanks a bunch!

This should help a little.

Ah, that page has lots of good info... " You should park your 4WD and walk the rest of the way unless you have an especially durable vehicle."

Well I am going to call the ATV an especially durable vehicle as I have beat the hell out of it before and it still chugs along.

Thanks for the post. Hope to get some good pictures!

No matter how durable your vehicle you can only drive to within about 1/4 to 1/2 mile of the crash site and must hike the rest of the way. It's not a tough hike and the trail is pretty obvious. Do not take the ATVs over the hiking path and be sure to leave everything as is so others can see and appreciate the site after you.

The parking area is literally 200 yards or so from the crash site so I would just park at the turnaround and walk down from there.

We went up there this past winter and you find some wreckage close by (maybe 200 yards), however you have to hike quite a ways to find things like the engine if that is what interests you. The plane is strung out over quite a distance, it isn't like the plane is all intact.

Thanks for the other replies, guess I can't get as close as I thought...we'll hike it for sure. I am a USFS Volunteer and have a great appreciation for things like this in the back country. We won't be doing any illegal travels or "stealing" plane pieces. That would just be wrong. :tisk:

Sounds like we have to wander around a bit to find all of the big pieces, still will be fun!

This map shows the trail you can drive your ATV on in red, the hiking trail in brown, and the area with most of the plane parts in the pink section. A steep, dead-end hill is shown in blue.

The hill itself is pretty steep. You can hike down to the bottom to see the engine, but the hike back up might be difficult for some people. You can see some of the pieces from the easy hiking trail, for those who want to keep it an easy hike.

It's pretty cool, and the trail itself is fun on an ATV (according to a friend).
