So I jumped on the homebrew bandwagon. Actually I did it a couple weeks ago. Just bottled my first batch on Wednesday. I had a glass then, and the flavor was good, but obviously it will be soo much better in another week or so. First batch was an Irish Stout. For my first two or three batches I'm just going with the kits. I picked up a Red Ale kit today, will probably cook it tomorrow. After that I'll see how I feel and whether I want to explore making my own recipes.

One thing I do think I want to try to make though, is a rasberry vanilla porter. That just sounds soo good to me. Maybe it's only good in my mind though. Any thoughts and/or suggestions on this?

Welcome to the club! A Rasp/Van Porter sounds great, but I'd focus on getting a great porter down pat first. Typically any additional flavors other than malt and hops will magnify and imperfections rather than cover them up.

When brewing it, the raspberry (Probably oregon puree) and the split vanilla beans would go into your seconardy after primary fermentation. You'll most likely get a small ramp up in continuing fermantation as the yeast attacks the natural sugar in the puree. When you bottle it, be prepared to let it sit for a while....the flavors with still be pretty raw, but should mellow nicely with time.
