A group caused trail damage earlier this year, and it's been closed for restoration/revegetation- at least that's the last I heard.

It was open when we ran it on 7/29:

The Colorado & International Full Size Jeeps ran it in July 13, 2007. No one that I talked to has said anything about the closing/restoration/revegetation.
The FJ cruiser club was up there at the same time... left a bit of paint on upper Poughkeepsie. :D

Man I've had a lot of fun times at that spot.....not difficult by any means but some people sure seem to struggle getting up it!

It was open in mid-August. I heard Western Slope 4-wheelers were closing some user created routes, but I haven't heard anything about the trail being closed. I'd contact Western Slope 4-Wheelers as it is their trail. They will know more than anyone about it.

Good news, and apologies for implying incorrect info!
I'll be down there this weekend, and now it might be added to the scheduled run list!

The revegetation has already been done. They didn't close the trail for it. But there could be some new issue with it, so I'd check first. there was a lot of rain when I was down there, so if they got even more, I could see some washouts on the lower part. There was a bulldozer working on the lower part when I was there.
I made it a point to look for that blue paint, and found it. :D

True unless...like this guy you were a pilgrim from Salt Lake City, jeeping alone, on a trail you never ran before, in a stock jeep with open diffs. Then you need a strap after 3 woefully unsuccessful attempts to make it under your own power. :D

Ok Here is what I know. The bypass on the right is now blocked off, there was way too much damage to keep it open, there should be winch points installed, WS4W worked on all that Sunday. There was damage by a couple of people from the hummer club, it has been "fixed" and the area has been reseeded.

What Dale said. It WAS closed because the WS4W were installing winch points and closing the bypass at the top with the BLM & FS. It should be open since the work was done last Sunday. That website needs to be updated.
And it was NEVER closed when the WS4W reseeded the area due to damage by the Hummer club.
CONGRATS TO THE WS4W! SATURDAY THERE WAS AN AWARDS CEREMONY WHERE TIM FROM BFGOODRICH PRESENTED A CHECK FOR $4000 TO DO RESTORATION AND MAINTAIN POUGHKEEPSIE!!!

No idea why, but it's said that all year so far. We've run it as well when it said it was closed.
Good job WS4W!!! :hail:

Trust a FED site (http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/sanjuan/conditions/roads/passes.shtml) instead. More likely to be kept up to date. Right now it's open.
