That's pretty awesome.
In January 1987, I was TAD on Okinawa and one day I was hitch-hiking. A car pulled up. The windows were kinda foggy and where I was walking was somewhat elevated above the street. I walked down the slope, opened the door and was caught by surprise...so was the driver. It was one of my buddies from high school.

Had my own "small world" story just last week...
This past week we drove our daughter over to North Carolina to start school at Wake Forest. As we were moving her in we discovered that a few doors down the hall a girl who lived just down the street from us, 15 years ago, in Florida, was also moving in!
The best "small world" story that I know of though...
My father grew up in Sidney, Nebraska. Graduated from high school in 1949. In 1950, when the "Korean conflict" started, he enlisted in the Air Force. He went to basic training in the Northeast--New Jersey, or upstate New York, I'm not really sure. Anyway, after basic he had a week of leave before he had to report to his duty station, so he and some buddies went into New York City for a couple of days.
One night they're standing right in the middle of Times Square, at 7th Ave. and 42nd Street. The light changes and they start walking across the street. Coming the other direction, crossing the same street at the same time, is my father's 11th grade math teacher from Sidney! What are the odds??
It really is amazing how this sort of thing happens. Considering there are some six billion people in the world now, it's even more amazing how many have this kind of "small world" story.

I was in NY on biniss and had the weekend off. Some co-workers and I decided to head out to see the Statue of Liberty. If any of you have been on this ship you know is covered wall to wall with every nationality known!! Well, we are on the main deck squished against the railing. There is a mother and what appears to be her son (about the same age as me), and they start talking about skiing. So I figure, being on the east coast, that they were probably talking about Vermont or the like. Then I hear "A-Basin". So I chime in and ask if they have been to CO for skiing. Come to find out they live(d) only a mile from where I grew up. The son was my age, but we went to different high schools since they were on the east side of Holy (road) and we were on the west side of Holy. Blew my mind at the time. . .

I was crewing for my buddy Stu during his 75 mile attempt at the Leadville 100 a couple of weeks ago, and while traffic was backed up at one of the places the race crossed the road, I saw an old friend slowly driving by, who I did an El Cap wall with back in 1998, and whom I haven't seen since!!! I called him over and had a chat - it blew my freaking mind.

When I was attending AIT in Ft. Huachuca, AZ I was talking with a guy about "where we're from". Turns out he was from a small town in Kentucky near where my family had lived once long ago. His dad and uncle knew my dad (the area gunsmith). After more talking we discovered that not only did we play against each other in Little League, but that HE was the one who hit a ball that bounced and loosened two of my front teeth!!!
Same timeframe in AIT, there was a girl that was from Niles, OH that I discovered had dated 2 of my cousins. It was EXTREMELY hard not to say "Its nice to finally put a face with the stories".

I took a girl to a concert once, at a stadium venue a couple of hours from home. As we were sitting there waiting, her sister, who was going to college in another town, sat down in the seat right in front of Michelle.

My story -
Had a good friend of mine I went to college with move away from Grand Forks, ND while I was away at basic training. 3 years later I decide to move to Denver. As I'm parking my Jeep downtown, I look out my window as someone is walking down the side-walk. We both do a double-take and what-do-ya-know, there he his. Turns out he lived in the apartment complex next to me.
Crazy how this world is sometimes.

1970. Torrejon AB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrejon_Air_Base), Spain (just outside of Madrid). SWMBO and I are on vacation trying to catch a Space-A hop back to Greece after getting bumped off a C-141 out of Mildenhall, UK. We have lunch in the Officers' Club, go out to catch a bus to downtown Madrid, run into a High School classmate that I haven't seen in 10 years. He's stationed in Germany and is at Torrejon enroute to Libya for bombing and and gunnery practice at Wheelus AB.
Yes, it's a small world after all. (http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/lyrics/smworld.htm)

It sure is a small world. with all these encounters listed here and we are just a very small part of the population. Imagine how many others have stories.
Mine is not a person, but a gas can.
Many moons ago in Michigan. I was out in the middle of nowwhere ville (Glen lakes) and ran into someone that had run out of gas. I had a small 2 gallon gas can that I gave to them. They offered to pay me for it, but I said just keep the can and pass it on to someone else in need and tell them the same thing.
Well many many moons later, like about 3 years ago, I ran out of gas here in Colorado and guess what was given to me. Yup that same gas can. That can is over 30 years old and looks like it, but it sure has made the rounds.
