Wow, just wow. How long do you give him before he is taken out of office through some form or fashion?

Still, he didn't commit France to it, and suggested that the US and Israel would take care of it. But it is nice to see some support coming from France. Interesting that he took some jabs at Russia (Putin) as well.

I like this guy. Smart. His minister of foriegn affairs is the renowned humanitarian who started Doctors without Borders.

France and the US have been great allies in the past.

Excellent use of diplomacy. "Stop building nuclear weapons, or we'll ask other countries to bomb you!". All the hard-line stance, none of the cost :D

Seems like they are offering all kinds of stuff to them to drop the program but they won't do it.

The nukes will fly over there one day.

I am okay with that. I am not looking for military or $$$ support from these countries if they are unable to provide it, I just don't want them to give us a hard time when we do what has to be done.

Yep. I think of France and the US as siblings.

It was the French Enlightenment philosophers who got our revolution started. Every single one of the major "thinkers" among America's founding fathers--Franklin, Jefferson, Mason, Paine, all of them--were followers of the Enlightenment. And, of course, France also provided major military support to us during the Revolutionary war.

Then, following the example we had set, and spurred on by the writings of Franklin, Jefferson, Mason, and Paine, the French had their own revolution, largely over the same issues as ours. And, of course, we were now in a position to provide them with some--albeit limited--military and financial support.

Both nations were born at practically the same time, and created with nearly identical founding principles. It really is only natural that we would be allies in many things, and it is also only natural that there would be a bit of sibling rivalry between us.

Exactly my feelings on the subject.

Hmm, good thing I'm going to Paris for 7 months. I can help foster the good American-French relations, at least with the women.

It's guys like Sarkozy who keep me from actually hating France. The French people I've known are uniformly intelligent and reasonable, and it looks like they're taking back their country.

Cool. I would love to get an opportunity to live and work in Paris for a while. Now that our daughter has gone off to college, in fact, my wife and I have been talking about working on something like that. So, what are you going to be doing there? It's not just a 7 month vacation, is it?

I would also add that if you want to learn more about the city, a very good book is "Paris, Biography of the City," by Colin Jones ( http://tinyurl.com/2spyj3 ). It's a bit long, and best read with a map of the city handy (he assumes a certain familiarity with the city's arrondisment), but it is as good a way to really "learn" Paris as I have found.

Yeah, but how many times have we seen the same thing? Both here and elsewhere.

The demand is basically, "change the laws of supply and demand or we're going to get really, really mad!" They might as well demand that the government change the law of gravity.

For an example of the exact same thing, but closer to home, just look at the thread here about Mexican truck drivers.!
