I got "screwed". I rented an A4 class car. Well, I didn;t get an Audi like I have in the past. I had a nice BMW 320d waiting for me.

I have liked Audis (especially the s-line) since they go fast pretty well. Much more stable feeling than a Benz. The 3 series...holy cow.

The damn thing, driving at 180-200kmh in traffic was pleasant. That car, cruising along at 200kmh was is actually refreshing. The audis are only confortable to around 180. I had a short section of open highway and saw 220kmh. It was rock solid. Factory claim of 225kmh top speed. I don't doubt it will hit it.

I am impressed with the 3 series...There is something about the car that just works. Bad thing is where speed limit was around 120kmh, I was actually pissed because the car was boring.

Oh...they handle well in the Alps too...

LOL, glad you enjoyed the Bimmer, love those cars. My dad had a '95 530i (one of the few years they ran a 3.0L V8) with a short shifter, some nice low profile tires...it was sexy. I never tested it off the line while he had it in Toronto, but it would fly up the 400 Highway like no one's business.

I had a '93 325is, and it was a blast. Aside from the annual maintenance costs, that is. My wife is nearing the end of her lease on her X3, and we are upgrading to the X5. With all maintanence costs included in the lease, all we have to do is put fuel in it. Plus, her X3 has saved my whole family from sever injury/death in a snow storm. That thing handled the weather better than any vehicle I've ever owned.

One of the car mags I suscribe to had an interesting comment about the new turbo'd 3 vs. the M3. It went something like "the new 3 series begs the question, why even build the M3?" Apparently, they're screamers. Plus, a forced-induction car doesn't loose as much power at altitude. Crank up the boost a little, run a little more octane...

Have you seen the new 1 series? An entry-level Bimmer w/ sculpted body lines in a 2-door coupe that is gorgeous. That car is just BEGGING for the M3 motor, or at least a turbo/supercharger. Light-weight, RWD, 2-doors...I think I see my mid-life crisis incarnate.

Why an M3. Its not just the power that makes them different....but the ride is not as plush...

I saw a V8 M3 on the track. Those things aren't slow.
