cant goto youtube at work... however the topic of "I hate rap, so I'll call this a rant" just has me wondering what specifically you dont like about rap?
all music has a beat... the only thing that really seperates music into different styles is the style of singing and the instruments used.
.
That's why I don't like most rap. There is no "singing", and no "instruments".

oh and dont say I dont like the topic of the songs cause every class of music has songs with the topics of racism, sexism, drugs, etc. Some topics may seem more prevelant in some styles. Rap seems to be more about sex and drugs... wait Rock is about sex and drugs... no sorry country is about sex and drugs. Wait wait I can even think of a few opera's that are about sex and drugs. Damn I cant seem to think of a style of music that doesnt talk about sex and drugs.
Bagpipes... yeah umm I can't think of a bagpipe song about sex and drugs... now sex and alcohol but thats a totally different story.
Your iron clad logic will surely convince him that he really does like rap after all. :D
It's just aesthetics. Some people like the color blue, others prefer red. Some people like euroghey clothing, others wear overalls. Whatever. To each his/her own.
For my part, I like certain hip hop stuff if it's well produced and has a strong hook. Other stuff I just find grating. Same is true with any other genre.
But one thing I find particularly offensive is gangsta rap or any of the stuff that glorifies the thug life. So I don't listen to it. *ding* Easy as that. :)

I am not a fan of rap either but the message that Marine speaks is one that I wish many other Americans understood. Thats the reason why we fight the fight and stay the course, at least for me it is. That is why I posted it yesterday. I thought about starting a thread with it but it fit in very nicely in the thread I posted it.
That made it onto Fox.com and cnn.com yesterday.

So you hate rap or do you hate the message that he is bringing across with his rap. Cause that's all it is, his message to you in the best way he can. I think it's awsome he did that whole thing in one shot, yeah it probably took him a few tries and alot of practice but look at his passion. Like a few others said it takes to much energy to hate something. Just put you dislike it or don't agree. And where's your rant all you did was post a link to a very passionate freestyle done by someone protecting you. And he may not even be in Iraq or the Middle East but he volentered to help out the nation you live in.

Rap is the artistic expression of a certain persons experiences in the World.
I love the gangster stuff.

Um, maybe, just maybe, you should have used a different example for your dislike in a certain genre of music.
I don't really care for rap that much either, but that Marine had a message. A very strong message that I enjoyed listening to. So yeah, different example might have been a little better.

My generation was about treating woman like sexy objects and parting your a** off, then going and getting into a fight. Hummmmmmm things really haven't changed much, just the way the story is told. I still don't like rap though.......................

Including fiscal responsibility....Much like Snoop and company, often many of us find ourselves with "my mind on my money and my money on my mind."

uhhm.... I think you totally misunderstood what he was saying by posting that. He's saying he hates rap but he likes this message so much that he's going to post it anyway and instead of calling it rap he's calling it a rant.

I think it's funny somebody had to explain what he was plainly trying to say. (see above^)
BTW I can say I hate rap as well, although there are exceptions to every rule.
