it's the most powerfull bike I have ever ridden... it's just AWE inspiring. I am awaiting on the P.O. to get a title for it then I will finalize the deal...

That looks like a 95. In 96 they switched to the single front headlight and one single seat for driver/passenger. Those onld style YZFs are cool though, getting kinda rare now, theyre known as thundercats. That was the transition phase between FZR600 and YZF600. Me being a FZR guy, I really like it. The only real downside to the early year YZFs is parts availablility. Some parts are different from the 96-07 YZF600s, like front suspension and brakes. The YZFs are fun to ride though. Plenty of power. Nice find!

ERR!!!
P.O. and a YZF600 forum all agree that it's a 96

97 was the transition to the Thundercat for the U.S., everywhere else in the world it was in 96...

the build date is 9/95 though....

from what I have read about the bike is that it shares A LOT of stuff with the 97-01? YZF600, so engine parts and the like are relatively easy to come by, it's the plastics and front suspension that are rare...

Yeah, engine and all associated parts are pretty much the same and rear suspension and frame from 95-07 is pretty much interchangeable. Still its a great find. Any model YZF in good shape is a good find. Its a very well balanced sport bike. I love the yamaha YZF heritage from FZR to YZF-R1 :D

While the FZ600 is cool and is for sure the predecessor to the FZR, it was not really fully embraced as a true sportbike. With the FZR came the Genesis engine configuration as well as the EXUP system, both of which evolved into modern R6s. These differences kinda made the FZR the first true sportbike from Yamaha, at least as far as the racing development at the time went. The FZ did lay the groundwork for the FZR, but is a very different bike. You can trace many of the components in the later bikes directly back to the FZR.

well I found a deal I could not pass up today, $2k for a 97 YZF600, so I now own a 1997 YZF 600 in blue, has some fairing damage, but for that price I dont really care, I am doing plugs, air filter, oil, and probably coolent tomorrow... and a wash and wax on all the plastics... should look decent when I am done, besides the rash on the fairings...

Pics will be up when I get it all back together!

I have been a member there for a few weeks now...

today was a BIG day...

cleaned the carbs
replaced the spark plugs
cleaned the air filter
changed the oil
changed the antifreeze
installed new grips
applied forever black to the fading black plastic (works well!)
washed and waxed the plastics

I will have pic up tomorrow!

Nice looking bike!!!

I keep saying that everytime I look at it... I never thought I would end up with a bike this nice...

The P.O was a moron, but I have it all good now...

I synced the carbs today, HUGE difference, I have throttle control from idle to 3k RPM now... I can't wait to do a trip to the mountains!

I just did an amazing ride today, starting in boulder, up canyon to nederland, then the peak to peak hwy (72?) to estes park, then back to 72 and take lefthand canyon back to boulder, about 130mi round trip...

it was an awesome ride, with AWESOME scenery!
